How to Beat Tormentor: The Shard Giver

Defeat the Tormentor in Dota 2 by countering its Reflect Damage ability. Learn its location and strategy to earn your team an Aghanim's Shard.

The Tormentor is a relatively new neutral mini-boss introduced to Dota 2, offering a unique reward: an Aghanim's Shard for your team.

Location:

  • There are two Tormentors on the map, located in the offlane jungle of each side, near the Tier 2 towers.

Abilities:

  • Reflect Damage: The Tormentor reflects a percentage of all damage dealt to it back to the attacker as pure damage. This makes it dangerous for heroes with very high damage output but low health.
  • High Armor and Magic Resistance: Similar to Roshan, Tormentors are tanky.
  • No Attack: The Tormentor does not attack back; it only reflects damage.

Rewards for Defeat:

  • Aghanim's Shard: The first hero on the team to not have an Aghanim's Shard (either purchased or from a previous Tormentor kill) will receive a free Aghanim's Shard. If all heroes already have a Shard, the reward is 200 gold.
  • Gold and Experience: Grants gold and experience to the team.

Strategic Considerations:

  • Timing: Tormentors spawn at 20:00 and respawn every 10 minutes.
  • Damage Reflection: Be mindful of the reflected damage. Heroes with high health, lifesteal, or magic immunity (BKB) are good at taking Tormentors. Heroes with low health and high burst damage (e.g., Tinker, Lina) can be easily killed by the reflection.
  • Team Effort: Often requires multiple heroes to take down safely, especially in the early stages.
  • Shard Priority: Decide which hero on your team would benefit most from a free Aghanim's Shard. This can be a significant power spike.
  • Vision: Ward the area around the Tormentor to prevent enemy contests.

Securing Tormentors provides a valuable free Aghanim's Shard, which can be a game-changer for many heroes, making it a contested objective in the mid-to-late game.
