Outposts: Experience and Vision

Master Dota 2's Outposts by understanding their strategic placement and capture mechanics to control valuable experience and vision for your team.

Outposts are neutral objectives that provide experience and vision to the controlling team. They are important strategic points that can influence the mid-game.

Location:

  • There are two Outposts on the map, located in the jungle near the Tier 2 towers of the mid lane.

Control Mechanics:

  • Capture: An Outpost can be captured by standing near it for 6 seconds without enemy heroes present.
  • Experience: Every 5 minutes (starting at 10:00), the controlling team receives a burst of experience for all heroes.
  • Vision: The controlling team gains vision in a large radius around the Outpost.
  • Teleport: Heroes can teleport to controlled Outposts using Town Portal Scrolls.

Strategic Importance:

  • Experience Advantage: Controlling both Outposts provides a significant experience advantage over time, helping your team gain levels faster.
  • Map Control: The vision provided by Outposts is crucial for tracking enemy movements and securing objectives in the mid-game.
  • Teleportation Point: Outposts serve as valuable teleportation points, allowing for quick rotations, defense, or counter-initiations.
  • Contested Objective: Outposts are highly contested, especially in the mid-game, as both teams vie for their benefits.

Prioritizing Outpost control, especially after winning a team fight or securing a pick-off, can provide a significant advantage in the mid-game. Supports and offlaners often play a key role in securing and defending them.
