Effective communication is paramount in Dota 2. While voice chat is available, text chat and pings are often more efficient for quick calls.
Text Chat:
- Enter: Opens team chat.
- Shift + Enter: Opens all chat (use sparingly and respectfully).
- Common Calls: 'MIA' (Missing in Action) for enemy heroes leaving your lane, 'Push' for advancing on a tower, 'Roshan' for attempting Roshan.
Pinging:
- Alt + Left-Click on Map/Unit: Creates a standard ping.
- Alt + Left-Click on Enemy Hero Portrait: Pings that hero's status (alive/dead).
- Alt + Left-Click on Ability/Item: Pings its cooldown or availability.
- Alt + Left-Click on Gold/Experience: Pings your current gold/experience.
- Ctrl + Alt + Left-Click (Draw on Map): Allows you to draw lines or shapes on the mini-map to illustrate movements or strategies.
Use pings to quickly alert teammates to danger, suggest objectives, or coordinate movements. Avoid excessive or spamming pings, as it can be distracting.
