Communication and Pinging

Learn effective communication techniques in Dota 2, including text chat and various ping commands for strategic coordination.

Effective communication is paramount in Dota 2. While voice chat is available, text chat and pings are often more efficient for quick calls.

Text Chat:

  • Enter: Opens team chat.
  • Shift + Enter: Opens all chat (use sparingly and respectfully).
  • Common Calls: 'MIA' (Missing in Action) for enemy heroes leaving your lane, 'Push' for advancing on a tower, 'Roshan' for attempting Roshan.

Pinging:

  • Alt + Left-Click on Map/Unit: Creates a standard ping.
  • Alt + Left-Click on Enemy Hero Portrait: Pings that hero's status (alive/dead).
  • Alt + Left-Click on Ability/Item: Pings its cooldown or availability.
  • Alt + Left-Click on Gold/Experience: Pings your current gold/experience.
  • Ctrl + Alt + Left-Click (Draw on Map): Allows you to draw lines or shapes on the mini-map to illustrate movements or strategies.

Use pings to quickly alert teammates to danger, suggest objectives, or coordinate movements. Avoid excessive or spamming pings, as it can be distracting.
