Vision Control: Warding and Dewarding

Master Dota 2 vision control: effective warding with Observer Wards in key spots and dewarding with Sentry Wards and Gem of True Sight.

Vision is power in Dota 2. Superior vision allows your team to make informed decisions, secure objectives, and avoid ganks. Warding and dewarding are the primary tools for vision control.

Warding (Observer Wards):

  • Purpose: Provide static vision in an area for 6 minutes.
  • Key Ward Spots:
    • Rune Spots: To secure runes and spot mid-lane rotations.
    • Jungle Entrances: To detect ganks and track enemy movements.
    • Roshan Pit: To monitor Roshan attempts.
    • High Ground: To gain vision over enemy high ground during pushes.
    • Defensive Wards: In your own jungle to protect farming cores.
  • Placement Tips: Place wards on high ground for maximum vision. Avoid placing them in obvious spots where they are easily dewarded.

Dewarding (Sentry Wards):

  • Purpose: Reveal invisible units and Observer Wards in a small area for 8 minutes.
  • Key Dewarding Spots:
    • Common Ward Spots: Place Sentries in areas where enemies are likely to place Observer Wards.
    • Roshan Pit: To clear enemy vision before attempting Roshan.
    • Around Objectives: Before pushing a tower or fighting for an Outpost.
    • Against Invisible Heroes: Place Sentries in areas where invisible heroes (e.g., Riki, Weaver) are likely to operate.
  • Placement Tips: Place Sentries strategically to cover multiple potential enemy ward spots.

Gem of True Sight:

  • Purpose: Provides permanent True Sight in an area around the holder, revealing invisible units and wards.
  • Risk: Drops on death, making it a high-risk, high-reward item.
  • Strategic Use: Often carried by a durable support or offlaner in the late game to secure vision control.

Supports are primarily responsible for vision, but all contribute by carrying Sentries or helping to deward. A well-warded map is a significant advantage.
