Character Progression & Customization
Building and customizing your character in Dragon Age: Inquisition is a core part of the experience, allowing you to shape the Inquisitor into the hero you envision. Progression involves leveling up, allocating attribute points, selecting skills and specializations, and equipping gear. Customization extends to appearance, combat style, and even dialogue choices, all of which contribute to a unique playthrough.
Leveling Up: As you gain experience through combat, completing quests, and exploring, your character will level up. Each level grants you attribute points to invest and skill points to unlock new abilities. Prioritizing which attributes and skills to develop is key to defining your character's role in the party.
Attributes: The six core attributes (Strength, Dexterity, Magic, Willpower, Constitution, Cunning) directly influence your character's effectiveness. Warriors benefit most from Strength, Rogues from Dexterity and Cunning, and Mages from Magic. Willpower and Constitution are beneficial for all classes, enhancing ability power and survivability respectively.
Skills: Each class has a distinct skill tree. Warriors can specialize in Combat, Brawling, or Vanguard. Rogues have access to Stealth, Dual-wielding, and Archery. Mages can choose from Spirit, Inferno, Winter, or Storm schools of magic. Investing skill points unlocks active abilities and passive bonuses.
Specializations: At certain points in the game, you can choose a specialization that further refines your character's combat role. These are unlocked through specific trainers and quests:
- Warrior: Champion (defensive), Templar (anti-magic), Reaver (offensive/self-damaging).
- Rogue: Assassin (stealth/burst damage), Artificer (traps/gadgets), Tempest (elemental/explosives).
- Mage: Knight-Enchanter (melee magic), Necromancer (summoning/death magic), Rift (Fade manipulation).
Gear and Crafting: Equipping better weapons and armor is essential for increasing your stats and survivability. The crafting system allows you to create powerful gear using schematics and materials found throughout the world. Different materials offer varying bonuses, so choose wisely.
Appearance Customization: Beyond combat, you can customize your Inquisitor's appearance during character creation and later at the mirror in Skyhold. This includes hairstyle, color, facial features, and even tattoos.
Talent Trees:
| Class | Talent Trees |
|---|---|
| Warrior | Combat, Brawling, Vanguard |
| Rogue | Stealth, Dual-Wielding, Archery |
| Mage | Spirit, Inferno, Winter, Storm |
By thoughtfully investing in attributes, skills, and specializations, and by equipping the best gear, you can create a truly unique and powerful Inquisitor capable of facing any threat.
