Dragon Locations & Levels

Hunting dragons is one of the most challenging and rewarding activities in Dragon Age: Inquisition. These colossal beasts are scattered across various regions, each with its own unique environment and difficulty level. Preparing for these encounters is crucial for survival and for obtaining the rarest loot.

The game features several High Dragons, each with a specific location and recommended level. These are typically found in high-level zones and require a well-equipped party and a solid understanding of combat mechanics.

  • The Hinterlands: Fereldan Frostback (Level 12) - This dragon is often the first High Dragon players encounter, located in the northern part of the region.
  • Crestwood: Northern Hunter (Level 14) - Found in the treacherous mountains of Crestwood, this dragon is known for its aerial attacks.
  • The Western Approach: Abyssal High Dragon (Level 16) - This formidable dragon resides in the ruins of the Western Approach, demanding a strategic approach.
  • Emprise du Lion: Hivernal (Level 18) - A powerful ice dragon that tests your party's resilience against cold damage.
  • The Emerald Graves: Gamordan Stormrider (Level 20) - This dragon is known for its lightning-based attacks and challenging arena.
  • The Storm Coast: Vinsomer (Level 22) - A dragon that utilizes powerful wind and storm abilities, making positioning critical.
  • The Fade: The Ur-Dragon (Level 24) - The ultimate challenge, found in the Fade, requiring immense preparation and skill.

Before engaging a dragon, ensure your party is at the recommended level, equipped with the best gear available, and has a balanced composition. Dragons are highly resistant to certain damage types and immune to others. Exploiting their elemental weaknesses is key to victory. For instance, dragons weak to fire can be countered with fire-based attacks, while those resistant to ice will require different tactics.

Remember to utilize your Focus abilities strategically, as they can turn the tide of battle. Also, keep an eye on the dragon's attack patterns and telegraphs to dodge its most devastating attacks. Looting dragon corpses yields valuable crafting materials, including Dragon Bones and Dragon Scales, essential for creating some of the most powerful equipment in the game.
