Enemy Weaknesses & Resistances
Understanding the weaknesses and resistances of your enemies is fundamental to efficient combat in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Exploiting these vulnerabilities can drastically shorten encounters, conserve resources, and minimize damage taken. Conversely, attacking enemies with resistances can be a frustrating and time-consuming endeavor.
The game categorizes enemies into various types, each with specific vulnerabilities and immunities. For example, demons are often susceptible to spirit damage, while undead creatures may be weak to holy or fire attacks. Beasts, such as dragons and drakes, often have specific elemental weaknesses that can be exploited.
Elemental Weaknesses: Many enemies have a pronounced weakness to specific elements. For instance, a dragon resistant to fire might be highly vulnerable to ice or lightning. Mages can exploit these by equipping elemental staves or using elemental spells. Warriors and Rogues can also benefit from elemental weapon coatings.
Physical Resistances: Some enemies, particularly heavily armored ones or constructs, may have high physical defense, making them resistant to direct weapon attacks. In such cases, relying on magical damage or abilities that bypass armor becomes more effective.
Status Effects: Enemies also vary in their susceptibility to status effects like burning, freezing, paralysis, and sleep. Understanding which enemies can be crowd-controlled or debuffed is crucial for managing large groups or difficult single targets. For example, a Pride Demon is immune to sleep and paralysis, making direct damage and stuns the primary strategy.
Specific Enemy Types:
- Demons: Often weak to Spirit damage.
- Undead: Vulnerable to Fire and Holy damage.
- Fade Creatures: May have varied resistances, often susceptible to Spirit or elemental damage.
- Beasts (Dragons, Drakes): Possess specific elemental weaknesses and resistances.
- Venatori/Red Templars: Generally susceptible to most damage types but can have specific resistances based on their armor and abilities.
Always observe your enemies' behavior and experiment with different damage types. The Codex entries often provide valuable information on enemy types and their vulnerabilities. Equipping gear with elemental damage bonuses or resistances can also significantly improve your effectiveness in combat.
