Basic Movement

Mastering movement in Dragon Ball FighterZ is paramount to success, allowing you to control space, evade attacks, and set up devastating combos. This section will detail the fundamental movement options available to every character.

Ground Movement

  • Walking:
    • Forward: Press and hold 6 (forward on the directional input). This is your slowest but most precise ground movement.
    • Backward: Press and hold 4 (backward on the directional input). Useful for creating small amounts of space or baiting opponents.
  • Dashing:
    • Forward Dash: Quickly tap 6 twice (66). This allows for rapid ground advancement, closing distances quickly to initiate offense.
    • Backward Dash: Quickly tap 4 twice (44). A faster way to retreat and create significant space, often used for whiff punishing or escaping pressure.
  • Super Dash: Press H + S (Heavy Attack + Special Attack). Your character will home in on the opponent, flying across the screen. This move has armor against most normal attacks and projectiles, making it an excellent approach option. Be cautious, as it's vulnerable to 2H (down-heavy) anti-airs.

Air Movement

  • Jumping:
    • Neutral Jump: Press 8 (up on the directional input). Jumps straight up.
    • Forward Jump: Press 9 (up-forward on the directional input). Jumps forward.
    • Backward Jump: Press 7 (up-backward on the directional input). Jumps backward.
    • Double Jump: After any initial jump, press 7, 8, or 9 again. This grants a second jump, allowing for extended air time, mix-ups, and evasive maneuvers.
  • Air Dash:
    • Forward Air Dash: While in the air, quickly tap 6 twice (66). This allows for quick horizontal movement in the air, useful for extending combos, crossing up opponents, or evading attacks.
    • Backward Air Dash: While in the air, quickly tap 4 twice (44). Provides aerial retreat, useful for escaping corner pressure or repositioning.
    • Note: You can only perform one air dash per jump.

Defensive Movement

  • Vanish: Press M + H (Medium Attack + Heavy Attack). Consumes 1 bar of Ki. Your character instantly teleports behind the opponent, often used to extend combos, escape pressure, or punish whiffed attacks.
  • Sparking Blast: Press L + M + H + S (Light + Medium + Heavy + Special Attack). Activates a temporary power-up state that grants increased damage, health regeneration, and the ability to cancel almost any action into another. Can be used defensively to break combos or offensively to extend pressure.
  • Guard Cancel: While blocking, press 4 + Assist 1 or 4 + Assist 2. Consumes 1 bar of Ki. Your active character will tag out and your chosen assist character will perform an attack, pushing the opponent away and creating space. An excellent way to escape relentless block pressure.

Practice these movements in the Training Mode (accessible from the Hub World) to build muscle memory. Understanding when and how to utilize each movement option is crucial for developing a strong offensive and defensive game plan.
