Character Unlock Requirements
Unlocking the full roster of powerful Z-Fighters and formidable villains in Dragon Ball FighterZ is a key step to mastering the game. While many characters are available from the outset, a select few require specific achievements or currency to join your team. This section details the precise methods for acquiring every unlockable character.
Zeni Unlocks (In-Game Currency)
The primary method for unlocking characters outside of story progression is through the accumulation of Zeni, the game's standard currency. Zeni is earned by completing matches in all game modes, finishing Story Mode chapters, and completing Arcade Mode runs. You can check your current Zeni balance in the Hub World by navigating to the Shop or by viewing your Player Card.
- SSGSS Goku: To unlock Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku, you have two options:
- Option 1 (Zeni Purchase): Accumulate a total of 300,000 Zeni. Once you have the required amount, navigate to the "Shop" in the Hub World and purchase him.
- Option 2 (Arcade Mode - Extreme Gravity Spaceship Course): Achieve an A-Rank or higher on the "Extreme Gravity Spaceship Course" in Arcade Mode (Hard difficulty). This requires consistent high performance, including perfects and high combo counts.
- SSGSS Vegeta: Similar to SSGSS Goku, SSGSS Vegeta can be unlocked via two distinct methods:
- Option 1 (Zeni Purchase): Gather a total of 300,000 Zeni. Head to the "Shop" in the Hub World and make the purchase.
- Option 2 (Arcade Mode - Hyperbolic Time Chamber Course): Achieve an A-Rank or higher on the "Hyperbolic Time Chamber Course" in Arcade Mode (Hard difficulty). Focus on maintaining high health and executing long combos.
Story Mode Unlocks
The Story Mode in Dragon Ball FighterZ not only provides an engaging narrative but also introduces and unlocks several key characters as you progress through its various arcs. These characters are automatically added to your roster upon completion of specific chapters.
- Android 21 (Lab Coat): This unique version of Android 21 is central to the Story Mode's narrative.
- Requirement: Complete the entire "Android 21 Arc" (also known as the "Super Warrior Arc" or "Enemy Warrior Arc" depending on your chosen path) in Story Mode. This is the final arc of the main story. You will unlock her upon viewing the final cutscene and credits.
- Strategy: While progressing through Story Mode, focus on leveling up your characters and equipping appropriate Link Skills to make battles easier. There are no specific items to collect for her unlock, just pure story progression.
Special Conditions & DLC Characters
Beyond Zeni and Story Mode, some characters may have been available through pre-order bonuses or are part of paid downloadable content (DLC) character packs. These characters are not unlockable through in-game progression.
- Pre-Order Bonuses:
- Certain editions or pre-orders of Dragon Ball FighterZ included early access or immediate unlocks for SSGSS Goku and SSGSS Vegeta. If you purchased such an edition, these characters will be available from the start.
- DLC Characters (FighterZ Pass):
- Many additional characters have been released as part of various "FighterZ Pass" seasons or as individual purchases. These characters include, but are not limited to, Broly (DBS), Gogeta (SSGSS), Vegito (SSGSS), Jiren, Videl, and many more.
- Requirement: To access these characters, you must purchase their respective DLC packs or the FighterZ Pass from your platform's digital storefront (e.g., PlayStation Store, Xbox Marketplace, Nintendo eShop, Steam Store). Once purchased and downloaded, they will be immediately available in your character selection screen.
- Note: These characters cannot be unlocked through Zeni or Story Mode progression.
