Monster Farming & Recruitment
Recruiting monsters in Dragon Quest Builders 2 adds a fantastic layer of utility and companionship to your adventure. These friendly foes, once convinced to join your cause, will reside on your Isle of Awakening and offer unique abilities, from resource generation to convenient transportation. This guide will walk you through the process of befriending these creatures and utilizing their talents.
Unlocking Monster Recruitment
The ability to recruit monsters isn't available from the very beginning of your journey. You'll unlock this crucial mechanic at a specific point in the story:
- Progress the Story: Continue through the main storyline.
- Between Chapters 2 and 3: After completing the events of Furrowfield and returning to the Isle of Awakening, but before embarking on Khrumbul-Dun, you will learn the recipe for Monster Munchies. This item is essential for recruitment.
Crafting Monster Munchies
Monster Munchies are the key to convincing monsters to join your island. You'll need to craft them at a specific workstation:
- Workstation: Craft at a Chef's Station or similar cooking facility.
- Ingredients: The exact ingredients for Monster Munchies are typically simple and become readily available as you progress. They often include common items like Wheat and Meat, but ensure you check your recipe list once it's unlocked.
The Recruitment Process
Once you have Monster Munchies in hand, you're ready to start recruiting! The process is straightforward but requires a bit of timing:
- Locate Your Target: Travel to one of the various Explorer's Shores or story islands where the desired monster type resides. For example, Slimes are found in Blossom Bay, and She-Slimes in Sunny Sands.
- Engage in Combat: Attack and defeat the monster you wish to recruit.
- Observe for Recruitment Chance: After defeating a monster, instead of disappearing immediately, there's a chance it will remain on the ground for approximately 30 seconds, indicated by a small "..." bubble above its head. This is your window of opportunity!
- Offer Monster Munchies: Quickly approach the downed monster and use a Monster Munchie on it. If successful, the monster will join your party and be transported to your Isle of Awakening.
- Repeat if Necessary: Not every defeated monster will offer a recruitment chance. If it disappears, simply find another of its kind and try again.
Notable Recruitable Monsters and Their Abilities
Each monster type brings unique benefits to your island and your adventures. Here are a few examples:
- Slime (Blossom Bay): A basic but friendly companion.
- Mount Ability: When ridden, can jump two blocks high and is immune to fall damage.
- She-Slime (Sunny Sands): A more resourceful variant of the Slime.
- Resource Generation: Can produce Oil when placed near a Bonfire.
- Mount Ability: Shares the Slime's jump and fall damage immunity.
- Chimaera (Blossom Bay), Hocus Chimaera (Iridescent Island), Cosmic Chimaera (Rimey Reef): These avian monsters are invaluable for exploration.
- Mount Ability: When ridden, grants the ability to fly, making traversal much easier, especially over difficult terrain or to reach high places.
- Muddy Hand (Soggy Skerry): These earthy creatures can assist with farming.
- Farming Assistance: Can help with planting and harvesting crops.
Managing Your Monster Companions
Once recruited, your monsters will roam freely on your Isle of Awakening. You can interact with them, ride them (if they are a mountable type), and observe their unique behaviors. Remember to provide them with a suitable environment, and they'll happily contribute to your building efforts!
