Challenges & Trophies/Achievements

Beyond the main story, Dragon Quest Builders 2 offers a wealth of challenges and achievements to test your building prowess and exploration skills. Many of these are tied to specific chapters, encouraging replayability and thorough investigation of each island. Completing these challenges often rewards you with valuable items or unlocks new content on the Isle of Awakening.

Chapter-Specific Challenges

Each story island presents a unique set of challenges, often revealed after completing the main narrative for that chapter. These can range from speedruns to intricate scavenger hunts.

Chapter 2 Challenges (Furrowfield Island)

  • Beat within 30 days: This challenge requires efficient planning and resource management. Focus on the main story objectives and avoid excessive side-building until after completion. Prioritize fulfilling villager requests quickly to progress the story and unlock necessary recipes.
  • Build town to level 5: To achieve this, you'll need to construct several rooms and place numerous decorative items. Pay attention to the "Room Score" displayed when you create a room; larger, more complex rooms with valuable furnishings contribute more. Ensure your town has essential facilities like kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms, and continuously add new structures and decorations as you unlock them.
  • Repair the ruined roof: This challenge involves a specific exploration task.
    1. Travel to the second island accessible via the Blue Teleporter.
    2. Head straight from the teleporter until you spot distinct white/gray mountains in the distance.
    3. Scale these mountains. On the other side, you'll discover a secluded mansion.
    4. Near the mansion, you'll find two chests: one locked and one unlocked. Open the unlocked chest to obtain the necessary Roof Pieces.
    5. Use these Roof Pieces to fill in all the missing sections of the mansion's roof.
    6. Once the roof is fully repaired, the previously locked chest will become accessible, revealing its spoils.
  • Obtain the Crown Jewels: This challenge requires your Fishing Rod.
    1. Go to the third island, accessible via the Red Teleporter.
    2. Proceed straight, past any crossroads you encounter.
    3. Continue until you reach a point where you can only turn left.
    4. Scale the mountain at this location and continue straight over its peak and down the other side.
    5. Once you're in the general area, use the "birds-eye view" mode (often accessed via the options button) to scan the environment for clues or specific fishing spots. The Crown Jewels are typically found by fishing in a particular body of water in this hidden area.

Final Chapter Challenges (Malhalla)

  • Complete within 30 days: Similar to Chapter 2, this speedrun challenge emphasizes efficiency. Focus on the critical path of the story and avoid unnecessary detours. Knowing the boss mechanics beforehand can save significant time.
  • Build base to level 4: This requires constructing a functional and aesthetically pleasing base in Malhalla. use the unique blocks and items available in this chapter to create high-scoring rooms. Ensure you have enough beds, light sources, and amenities to satisfy your residents and boost your base's overall level.
  • Defeat the Dragon Lord without wearing the Legendary Armor: This challenge adds a significant layer of difficulty to the final boss fight.
    1. You must first craft the Legendary Armor as part of the story progression.
    2. Before initiating the final boss encounter, place the Legendary Armor into your Giant Chest (or any storage chest) to ensure you are not wearing it.
    3. You are permitted to wear other, non-legendary armor during the first phase of the fight.
    4. However, be aware that any armor you are wearing will disappear during the transition to the second phase of the boss fight. You will be left with no armor for the remainder of the battle.
    5. Focus on dodging attacks and using your strongest weapons and healing items. The Dragon Lord's attacks are manageable even without armor if you learn his patterns.
  • Show a verdant vision to a certain someone: This is one of the more cryptic challenges.
    1. Return to the very first island where your adventure began.
    2. Locate the makeshift cabin where the old man initially led you.
    3. From this cabin, look directly south and high up. You should spot a massive slime-shaped structure made of blocks.
    4. Climb the mountain towards this giant slime. The "certain someone" you need to show a verdant vision to is located within or near this structure. You will likely need to bring a specific "verdant" item (e.g., a flower, a tree sapling, or a specific green block) and place it in their line of sight or interact with them while holding it.
