Items and Equipment: The Builder's Arsenal
The world of Dragon Quest Builders is rich with items and equipment, from basic tools to legendary weapons and armor. Mastering the crafting system and understanding the utility of each item is fundamental to your success as a Builder. Items are primarily acquired through three methods: crafting at specialized stations (like a Mason's Workshop or a Furnace), gathering from the environment, or looting from defeated monsters.
Weapons and Combat Gear
While you are a Builder first, survival requires combat. Weapons primarily increase your Attack stat, allowing you to defeat stronger monsters and harvest materials from tougher sources. Most weapons are crafted using metals and wood.
- Early-Game Example: Cypress Stick – Low damage, but essential for surviving the first nights in Cantlin.
- Late-Game Example: Sword of Kings – A legendary blade with immense power that does not break, crucial for the final boss encounters.
Armor and Shields
Armor and Shields increase your Defense stat and can provide elemental resistances or immunity to status ailments like poison or paralysis. Equipping better armor is the only way to survive the high-damage attacks of late-game enemies.
- Early-Game Example: Wayfarer's Clothes – Basic protection crafted from rags and blue oil.
- Late-Game Example: Auroral Armour – Provides high defense and prevents the wearer from being knocked back by enemy attacks.
Tools of the Trade
Unlike weapons, tools are designed for resource extraction. Using the correct tool on a block type increases efficiency and is often required to yield the actual item rather than broken shards.
- Hammer: Used for breaking stone, minerals, and brick. The Sledgehammer is a staple early tool, while Warhammer types are needed for obsidian.
- Shovel: Essential for transplanting plants and flowers without destroying them.
- Fishing Rod: Used at water sources to catch fish, which serve as a renewable food source.
Consumables and Food
Consumables manage your Hunger meter and HP. If your hunger meter reaches zero, you will gradually lose HP and become unable to sprint. Some foods also provide temporary buffs to attack or defense.
- Healing Items: Healing Cream and Medicinal Herbs are your primary source of mid-combat recovery.
- Food: Bunicorns Steak and Bread provide basic satiety, while Cooked Fish offers higher replenishment.
Building Blocks and Decorative Items
Blocks are the literal foundation of the game. They range from simple Earth and Straw to reinforced Fortress Blocks. Decorative items (furniture, lighting, and greenery) do not just look good; they define "Room Recipes." Placing specific combinations of decorative items inside a room will grant it special properties, such as HP regeneration for NPCs or increased item durability for the player.
Management and Item Stats
Every piece of equipment has a Durability meter. As you use weapons and tools, they will eventually break and disappear from your inventory. Always carry spares or keep a Colossal Coffer nearby to access your global storage. Pay attention to "Special Effects" listed in the item description—some items may increase your movement speed or allow you to breathe underwater.
