At the beginning of your journey, you'll choose between two main protagonists: Lazarel (male) or Teresa (female). While their initial appearance and voice lines differ, their starting stats and class options are identical. This choice is purely cosmetic and does not impact gameplay significantly. You'll also be able to customize their hair color and eye color.
Shortly after starting, you'll be joined by your cousin, the other protagonist you didn't choose, and Healix, a helpful monster companion. Your initial party will consist of these three, providing a balanced start with melee, ranged, and support capabilities. As you progress, more iconic Dragon Quest characters will join your ranks, each with unique abilities and playstyles. Don't worry too much about your initial choice; both Lazarel and Teresa are excellent heroes capable of leading your party to victory.
