Chapter 11: Fuming Fault

Welcome, heroes, to the scorching depths of the Fuming Fault! This chapter presents some unique challenges, primarily centered around navigating treacherous terrain and dealing with powerful, fire-attuned enemies. Preparation is key here, so make sure your party is equipped with fire-resistant accessories and spells if possible.

Objective: Reach the Caldera's Core

Your primary goal in this initial phase is to traverse the volcanic landscape and reach the heart of the Fuming Fault. Be wary of environmental hazards and ambushes.

  • Starting Point: You'll begin at the entrance to the Fuming Fault. The path forward is relatively linear, but keep an eye out for hidden pathways.
  • First Encounter: Shortly after starting, you'll be ambushed by a group of Magma Slimes and Firespirit Imps. These enemies are weak to ice magic, so consider bringing a character like Jessica or Maya.
  • Item Location: Before crossing the first lava flow, look for a small alcove to your left. Inside, you'll find a chest containing a Mini Medal and a Fire Charm. Equip the Fire Charm on a character who frequently takes damage.
  • Navigating Lava Flows: Some sections will require you to cross unstable rock bridges over flowing lava. These bridges can crumble if you linger too long or if large enemies attack them. Use quick attacks and avoid getting surrounded.
  • Mid-way Checkpoint: After a few more encounters with Golem and Hellion enemies, you'll reach a small plateau with a healing fountain. This is an excellent spot to regroup and use any accumulated Monster Medals.

Objective: Activate the Ancient Mechanisms

To proceed deeper into the caldera, you'll need to activate two ancient mechanisms. These are guarded and require a specific approach.

Mechanism 1: The Eastern Conduit

This mechanism is located in the eastern section of the map, past a narrow gorge.

  • Path to Mechanism 1: Follow the path eastward from the healing fountain. You'll encounter several Infernal Armors and Flaming Swords. Focus on breaking their shields with strong attacks.
  • Guardian Battle: Upon reaching the Eastern Conduit, you'll face a mini-boss: a Gigantes accompanied by several Lava Lamplings. Prioritize taking out the Lava Lamplings first, as they can heal the Gigantes. Use your coup de grâce when the Gigantes is stunned.
  • Activation: After defeating the guardians, approach the glowing pedestal and interact with it to activate the mechanism. A short cutscene will play, showing a change in the environment.
  • Hidden Treasure: Before leaving the Eastern Conduit area, check behind the large rock formation to the north. You'll discover a chest containing 3,000 Gold Coins and a Strength Ring.

Mechanism 2: The Western Vent

The second mechanism is situated in the western part of the Fuming Fault, near a series of active vents.

  • Path to Mechanism 2: Head west from the healing fountain. This route is more perilous, with frequent eruptions from the ground. Watch for visual cues (cracks in the ground glowing red) to avoid taking damage.
  • Environmental Hazard: The active vents will periodically release plumes of fire. Time your movements carefully or use characters with high mobility to dash through these sections.
  • Guardian Battle: The Western Vent is protected by a Dragon and a swarm of Drackyma. The Dragon's fire breath can be devastating, so try to flank it and attack its vulnerable sides. Use ranged attacks to deal with the Drackyma.
  • Activation: Once the Dragon is defeated, activate the second mechanism. Both mechanisms are now online, opening the path to the Caldera's Core.

Objective: Confront the Fiery Menace

With both mechanisms activated, the way to the final boss of this chapter is open. Prepare for a challenging fight.

  • Final Approach: Return to the central area near the healing fountain. A new path, previously blocked by molten rock, will now be accessible, leading directly to the Caldera's Core.
  • Recommended Party: For the upcoming boss battle, consider a balanced party with strong melee attackers, a dedicated healer (like Kiryl or Jessica), and a character with good crowd control or elemental damage.
  • Boss Battle: Ignis, the Fuming Fury
    • Phase 1: Ignis will primarily use sweeping fire attacks and summon Flame Golems. Focus on dodging its wide arcs and quickly eliminating the Golems to prevent them from overwhelming you.
    • Phase 2 (50% HP): Ignis will become enraged, increasing its attack speed and gaining a new attack: a powerful fire nova. This attack has a long wind-up, giving you a small window to move out of its radius. This is a good time to unleash your coup de grâce.
    • Strategy: Exploit its weakness to ice and water magic. Keep your party spread out to minimize damage from its area-of-effect attacks. Don't be afraid to use your healing items and Monster Medals strategically.
  • Victory Reward: Upon defeating Ignis, you'll receive a significant experience boost, a large sum of gold, and the Inferno Orb, a key item for future crafting.

Congratulations, Captain! You've braved the Fuming Fault and emerged victorious. The journey continues!
