Upon starting a new game, you will be prompted to create your main hero. You can choose their gender and name. After this, you'll visit Patty's Party Planning Place in Aliahan to recruit your initial companions. This is one of the most crucial decisions in the game, as your party composition will heavily influence your strategy and overall difficulty.

Available Vocations:
- Warrior: High HP and Strength, excels at physical combat. Can equip heavy armor.
- Fighter: High Agility and Strength, specializes in unarmed combat and critical hits. Less durable than Warriors.
- Pilgrim (Cleric): Heals and supports the party with divine magic. Can also deal decent damage with blunt weapons.
- Wizard (Mage): Powerful offensive magic, but low HP and defense. Essential for clearing groups of enemies.
- Dealer (Merchant): Can find extra gold after battles and appraise items. Useful for early game finances.
- Jester (Goof-off): Unpredictable actions in battle, but can eventually change to a Sage. High Luck.
- Thief: High Agility and Luck, can steal items from enemies and open locked doors without keys.
- Sage: Can use both Pilgrim and Wizard spells. Requires a 'Book of Satori' to change vocation from Jester or other classes. Highly versatile.
A balanced party typically includes a Warrior/Fighter for damage, a Pilgrim for healing, and a Wizard for offensive magic. The fourth slot can be filled based on your preference, with a Thief for utility or another damage dealer. Remember, you can change vocations later in the game at Dharma Temple, but characters will lose half their stats (though they retain learned spells/abilities).
