The Sage is arguably the most powerful and versatile vocation in Dragon Quest III. Sages can learn and cast both Pilgrim and Wizard spells, making them incredibly adaptable. They have good MP growth and decent stats, though not as high as dedicated physical attackers. The catch is that a character can only become a Sage by using a Book of Satori, typically after reaching Level 20+ in another vocation (most commonly a Jester).

- All Pilgrim and Wizard Spells: Unparalleled magical versatility.
- Good MP Growth: Can sustain prolonged spellcasting.
- Decent Stats: Better HP and defense than a pure Wizard, but not as strong as a Warrior.
Recommended Equipment:
Similar to Pilgrims and Wizards, focus on MP, magical resistance, and some defense.
- Weapons: Staff of Thunder, Staff of Judgment, Staff of Ghent.
- Armor: Magic Armor, Dragon Mail, Magic Robe.
- Shields: Magic Shield, Dragon Shield.
- Accessories: Prayer Ring, Starry Ring.
Converting a Jester to a Sage is a highly recommended strategy. While the Jester phase can be frustrating due to their unpredictable actions, the resulting Sage is a powerhouse that can heal, buff, and unleash devastating offensive magic. A party with a Hero, a Warrior, a Pilgrim, and a Sage (or two Sages) is often considered optimal for the late game.
