Saving Your Game

Saving your progress in Dragon Quest IV is crucial, as unexpected defeats can set you back significantly. The primary method for saving is by speaking to a Priest or Nun in a church. Churches are found in almost every town and some larger villages. When you speak to them, they will offer to 'Record your journey' (save your game) or 'Purify your party' (remove status ailments). Always choose to record your journey before venturing into a new dungeon, facing a boss, or after making significant progress like gaining several levels or acquiring valuable equipment.

In some versions of the game, particularly the Nintendo DS and mobile versions, there might be an additional 'Quick Save' feature accessible from the main menu on the world map or in dungeons. This quick save is usually temporary and is deleted upon loading, so it should not replace regular church saves. Always prioritize the church save for permanent progress. Losing hours of gameplay due to forgetting to save is a common pitfall for new players, so make it a habit to visit a church frequently. Priests also offer resurrection services if a party member falls in battle, for a fee.
