In Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, your interactions with the various denizens of Nadiria and the human realm of Terrestria aren't just for show. A robust Reputation and Faction system underpins many side quests, monster recruitment opportunities, and even access to exclusive shops and synthesis recipes. Understanding and actively managing your standing with key groups is crucial for a complete playthrough.

Understanding Reputation

Reputation is a global metric that reflects how the general populace views you, the Dark Prince. While it doesn't directly unlock specific faction rewards, a higher overall Reputation can influence random encounters, shop discounts, and the willingness of certain NPCs to offer assistance or information. Think of it as your general "goodwill" score.

• How to Increase Reputation:
  • Completing Main Story Quests: Progressing through the primary narrative naturally boosts your Reputation as you resolve major threats and aid various communities.
  • Completing Side Quests: Many side quests, particularly those involving helping common folk or resolving local disputes, contribute significantly to your Reputation. Look for NPCs with a green exclamation mark above their heads.
  • Defeating Major Monsters: Vanquishing powerful fiends and bosses, especially those terrorizing towns or trade routes, will earn you public acclaim.
  • Donating to Temples/Shrines: In towns like Rosehill and Vanguard, you can find donation boxes or altars. Offering Gold or rare items (e.g., Orichalcum Ore, Yggdrasil Leaf) can provide a small, consistent Reputation gain.
  • Returning Lost Items: Occasionally, you'll find "Lost Pouches" or "Discarded Tools" in dungeons or overworld areas. Returning these to their rightful owners (often marked with a blue speech bubble) grants a minor Reputation boost.
• How to Decrease Reputation:
  • Failing Quests: Abandoning or failing certain time-sensitive side quests can slightly lower your Reputation.
  • Attacking Innocent NPCs: While rare, some environmental interactions might allow for hostile actions. Avoid these to maintain a positive standing.

Faction Systems

Based primarily in Rosehill, the Monster Tamers' Guild is a collective of monster enthusiasts and trainers. They value skill, dedication, and a strong bond with your monsters.

  • Guild Master Thorne: Located in the central Guild Hall in Rosehill. He assigns high-level challenges and rewards.
  • Scout Captain Lyra: Found near the Rosehill Arena. She offers monster scouting contracts.
• How to Increase Guild Favor:
  • Arena Battles: Consistently winning battles in the Rosehill Arena is the fastest way to earn Guild favor. Each tier of the arena (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) offers increasing rewards.
  • Monster Scouting Contracts: Accept and successfully complete scouting contracts from Scout Captain Lyra. These often involve finding and recruiting specific monster types in designated areas (e.g., "Scout a Great Sabrecat in the Circle of Caprice").
  • Donating Rare Monster Parts: Guild Master Thorne occasionally requests rare monster parts (e.g., Dragon Scales from the Circle of Conquest, Demon Horns from the Circle of Dispair). Fulfilling these requests grants substantial favor.
  • Participating in Monster Festivals: Periodically, special Monster Festivals will be announced in Rosehill. Participating and performing well in these events (e.g., Monster Beauty Contests, Monster Races) boosts your standing.
• Faction Rewards:
  • Exclusive Synthesis Recipes: Higher Guild favor unlocks advanced monster synthesis recipes, allowing you to create powerful new monster combinations. Check the Synthesis menu at the Guild Hall.
  • Rare Monster Eggs: At certain favor thresholds, Guild Master Thorne will offer unique monster eggs (e.g., a Metal Slime Egg at "Trusted" rank, a King Slime Egg at "Revered" rank).
  • Discounted Scouting Items: Scout Captain Lyra will offer discounts on items like Monster Munchies and Scout's Salves.

  • Caravan Leader Elara: Often found near the entrance/exit of Vanguard. She manages trade routes and offers escort missions.
• How to Increase Collective Favor:
  • Trade Route Escorts: Speak with Caravan Leader Elara in Vanguard. She will offer missions to escort merchant caravans through dangerous areas (e.g., the Circle of Temper, the Circle of Fortitude). Successfully protecting the caravan from monster attacks increases favor.

A secretive society of mages, scholars, and alchemists, the Arcane Order is headquartered in the secluded Whispering Library, deep within the Circle of Wisdom. They value knowledge, magical prowess, and the pursuit of ancient secrets.

  • Archivist Seraphina: The primary contact within the Whispering Library. She assigns research tasks and deciphers ancient texts.
  • Alchemist Kael: Located in the Whispering Library's alchemical lab. He offers advanced alchemy challenges.
• How to Increase Order Favor:
  • Deciphering Ancient Texts: Archivist Seraphina will provide you with "Unreadable Scrolls" or "Ancient Tablets" found in various dungeons (e.g., Ruins of Reflection in the Circle of Temper, Sunken Temple in the Circle of Fortitude). Bring these back for her to decipher, granting favor.
  • Monster Research: Kael will request specific monsters for research purposes. You don't lose the monster, but bringing them to him (even temporarily) for analysis grants favor. These requests often involve monsters with unique traits or spell lists.
  • Alchemy Challenges: Alchemist Kael offers challenges to synthesize specific rare items or potions using advanced alchemy recipes. Successfully crafting these items boosts your standing.
  • Discovering Hidden Lore: Finding and interacting with hidden lore entries, ancient murals, or forgotten altars within dungeons and bringing the information back to Seraphina will earn favor.

  • Advanced Alchemy Recipes: Alchemist Kael will teach you new, high-tier alchemy recipes for crafting powerful consumables and synthesis catalysts.
  • Access to Restricted Sections: Unlock access to previously sealed-off sections of the Whispering Library, containing rare books, unique monster data, and even hidden monster encounters.
  • Magical Artifacts: At "Master Scholar" rank, Seraphina may reward you with powerful magical artifacts (e.g., Orb of Sagacity, Staff of Wisdom) that boost your monsters' magical stats.

Monitoring Your Standing

You can check your current Reputation and Faction favor levels at any time through the "Status" menu. Navigate to the "Player Info" tab and then select "Reputation & Factions." This screen will display your overall Reputation score and your current rank with each of the three major factions, along with a progress bar indicating how close you are to the next rank.

Prioritize factions based on your current needs. If you're struggling with monster power, focus on the Monster Tamers' Guild. If you need better gear or consumables, the Merchants' Collective is your best bet. For powerful spells and unique synthesis options, dedicate time to the Arcane Order.
