New Game Plus
Welcome, intrepid treasure hunters! So you've conquered the Floating Continent, amassed a respectable hoard, and perhaps even bested the final challenges. But the adventure doesn't have to end there! Dragon Quest Treasures offers a fantastic "New Game Plus" experience, allowing you to carry over much of your hard-earned progress and tackle new goals, such as achieving true 100% completion or simply enjoying the world with your overpowered monster pals.
Unlike some games where New Game Plus is a separate save file, Dragon Quest Treasures seamlessly integrates it into your existing save. There's no explicit "start New Game Plus" button; instead, certain elements reset while others persist, allowing for continuous progression.
What Carries Over?
The good news is, most of your valuable progress remains intact, making your subsequent runs significantly smoother and more focused on specific objectives.
- Character Levels & Stats: Erik and Mia retain their levels, learned abilities, and statistical improvements.
- Monster Levels & Roster: Your entire monster team, including their levels, stats, and any decorations they've acquired, will carry over. This is a huge advantage for tackling early-game challenges with ease.
- Treasure & Vault Progress: All the treasures you've collected and appraised, along with your vault's expansion and current value, are preserved. This is crucial for working towards a complete treasure list.
- Equipment & Items: Any weapons, armor, accessories, and consumable items you've acquired will be in your inventory from the start.
- Fort Upgrades: All upgrades to your base, including the Monster Dispatch, Cafeteria, and other facilities, remain active.
- Recipes & Crafting Materials: Your learned recipes and any crafting materials you possess will carry over, allowing you to craft powerful items early on.
- Medals & Rewards: Any medals you've earned and the associated rewards will persist.
What Resets?
While much carries over, certain story-related elements and quest progress will reset to allow you to experience the narrative again or pursue alternative outcomes.
- Main Story Progress: The main questline will reset, allowing you to play through the story from the beginning. This means you'll need to re-recruit certain monsters or unlock areas as part of the narrative progression.
- Side Quests: Most side quests will reset, giving you the opportunity to complete them again for rewards or to experience different choices.
- Fortune Finder Rank: Your Fortune Finder Rank will reset, requiring you to climb the ranks again by collecting and appraising treasures. This is a key part of the New Game Plus loop for those aiming for the highest ranks.
- Exploration Progress (Fog of War): The fog of war on your maps will return, requiring you to re-explore areas to reveal them. However, any previously discovered fast travel points will remain active once you reach those areas.
Strategies for New Game Plus
1. Aiming for 100% Treasure Completion
One of the most common goals in New Game Plus is to complete your treasure list. This involves not just finding every unique treasure, but also acquiring all possible grades for each. This can be a lengthy but rewarding endeavor.
- Focus on Missing Treasures: Use your treasure list to identify any treasures you missed in your previous playthrough. Prioritize exploring areas known to contain these elusive items.
- Grade Hunting: To get all grades for a treasure, you'll need to find it multiple times. As your Fortune Finder Rank increases, you'll naturally start finding higher-grade treasures. For lower-grade items, you might need to revisit earlier areas or intentionally avoid increasing your rank too quickly if you're specifically targeting those.
- Monster Dispatch: use your Monster Dispatch facility to send out teams to specific islands. This is an excellent passive way to gather treasures, including those you might be missing or need in different grades.
- Treasure Radar: Equip monsters with high Treasure Radar stats to make finding hidden treasures much easier.
2. Maximizing Monster Potential
With your powerful monster roster carrying over, New Game Plus is the perfect time to fine-tune your team and explore new monster combinations.
- Recruit Rare Monsters: Focus on capturing any rare or elusive monsters you may have missed. With your high-level characters and monsters, these encounters will be significantly easier.
- Experiment with Decorations: Collect and experiment with different monster decorations. While you can't own every combination due to roster limits, you can cycle through and try out various stat boosts and abilities.
- Leveling Up New Recruits: Use your strong existing team to quickly power-level any newly recruited monsters you want to add to your active party.
3. Speedrunning the Story
If you're looking for a quick playthrough to unlock specific features or just enjoy the narrative again, your carried-over power makes this a breeze.
- Overpowered Combat: Your high-level characters and monsters will decimate early-game enemies, allowing you to progress through combat encounters rapidly.
- Skip Side Content: Focus solely on the main story objectives to reach the end credits faster.
- Fast Travel: use previously discovered fast travel points to quickly navigate between islands and key locations.
New Game Plus in Dragon Quest Treasures is a fantastic way to extend your adventure, achieve true completion, and simply enjoy the game with the full power of your treasure-hunting crew. Happy hunting!
