Walkthrough - Late Game / End Game

Welcome, intrepid hero, to the final stretches of your epic journey through the Realms of Revelation! This section will guide you through the endgame content, from preparing for the ultimate confrontation to conquering the final boss and exploring post-game challenges. Ensure your party is well-equipped and your vocations are mastered, as the trials ahead are formidable.

Preparation for the Final Battle

Before challenging the Lord of the Underworld, Murdaw, or any subsequent final bosses, thorough preparation is paramount. This involves optimizing your party's equipment, mastering key vocations, and stocking up on essential items.

Optimal Equipment Acquisition

  • Ultimate Armor: Seek out the legendary armor pieces. The Liquid Metal Armor (found in the optional dungeon, the Fungeon, or as a rare drop from Liquid Metal Slimes) offers incredible defense. The Hero's Shield and Hero's Helm are also crucial for your main protagonist.
  • Best Weapons: For physical attackers, the Sword of Ramias (obtained through a specific side quest involving the Zenithian Sword) is often the strongest. Magical users benefit from staves that boost wisdom or magic attack.
  • Accessories: Don't underestimate the power of accessories. The Meteorite Bracer (doubles agility) is excellent for healers or spellcasters to ensure they act first. The Goddess Ring (restores MP each turn) is invaluable for prolonged battles.

Vocation Mastery and Skill Synergy

By this point, your party should have several vocations mastered. Focus on synergistic skill sets:

  • Healers: Ensure your primary healer (e.g., Milly or Ashlynn) has mastered the Sage vocation for access to powerful healing spells like Multiheal and Omniheal, and support spells like Insulatle.
  • Physical Attackers: Characters like Carver or the Hero should aim for Gladiator and/or Warrior mastery for high attack power and skills like Falcon Slash or Sword Dance.
  • Mages: A dedicated mage (e.g., Ashlynn or Nevan) should master the Sage and/or Luminary vocations for devastating offensive spells like Kazap and Kaboom, and status effects.
  • Support: Consider a character with Paladin mastery for Kafrizzle and defensive abilities, or a Ranger for utility skills.

Essential Item Stockpile

  • Healing: Carry at least 10-15 Full Moon Herbs (cures confusion), Yggdrasil Dew (full party heal), and numerous Medical Herbs or Strong Medicine.
  • MP Restoration: Magic Water and Elfin Elixirs are vital for long boss fights.
  • Revival: Always have Yggdrasil Leaves and Zing Sticks on hand.

The Final Confrontation: Murdaw's Keep

Once you've acquired the Zenithian Sword and are ready to face Murdaw, head to Murdaw's Keep. This dungeon is straightforward but filled with tough encounters.

Dungeon Navigation

  1. From the entrance, proceed through the linear path, battling powerful enemies like the Hellion and Killing Machine.
  2. You'll encounter several locked doors. The keys are usually found nearby or dropped by specific enemies.
  3. The dungeon has multiple floors. Pay attention to the map to avoid getting lost.
  4. There are no major puzzles, but expect frequent battles. Use your strongest area-of-effect spells to clear groups quickly.

Boss Strategy: Murdaw

Murdaw is a multi-stage boss fight. Be prepared for a long and challenging battle.

  • Phase 1: Murdaw (Dream World)
    • Murdaw will primarily use physical attacks and occasionally cast Kafrizzle.
    • Focus on buffing your party with Oomph on your physical attackers and Insulatle to reduce magic damage.
    • Keep your HP high with Multiheal.
    • Deal consistent damage with your strongest single-target abilities.
  • Phase 2: Murdaw (Real World)
    • This form is significantly stronger. Murdaw gains access to Blizzard Breath (ice damage to all) and Disruptive Wave (removes all buffs).
    • The moment Disruptive Wave is used, immediately reapply Oomph and Insulatle.
    • Consider having a character dedicated to healing and another for buffing/debuffing (e.g., Sap to lower Murdaw's defense).
    • Persevere, maintain healing, and chip away at his HP. This is a battle of attrition.

Post-Game Content: The Dread Realm and Beyond

Defeating Murdaw is not the end! Dragon Quest VI offers extensive post-game content, including the true final boss and optional challenges.

The Dread Realm

After Murdaw, you'll gain access to the Dread Realm, a new area filled with even stronger monsters and the path to the true final boss.

  • Exploration: The Dread Realm is a vast, desolate landscape. Use your flying carpet or Pegasus to navigate efficiently.
  • New Dungeons: Expect several new, challenging dungeons within the Dread Realm, each with unique enemies and valuable treasures.
  • Grinding: This is an excellent area for grinding experience and vocation ranks, as the enemies yield high rewards.

The True Final Boss: Dhuran

Dhuran awaits at the end of the Dread Realm. He is significantly more powerful than Murdaw and will test your party's limits.

  • Strategy: Dhuran has high attack, powerful multi-target spells, and can inflict status effects.
  • Key Spells: Multiheal and Omniheal are absolutely essential. Insulatle is crucial for mitigating his magic damage.
  • Offensive Tactics: Focus fire with your strongest physical and magical attacks. Oomph on your attackers and Sap on Dhuran are highly recommended.
  • Resilience: This fight requires sustained healing and damage. Don't be afraid to use your most powerful items.

Optional Challenges and Rewards

  • The Fungeon: Located in the Dream World, this optional dungeon is home to some of the toughest monsters and best equipment, including the Liquid Metal Armor and the Metal King Helm. Be prepared for encounters with Metal King Slimes!
  • Monster Arena: Participate in the Monster Arena in the Real World to pit your recruited monsters against others for unique prizes and bragging rights.
  • Class Mastery Rewards: Fully mastering all vocations for a character often unlocks powerful passive bonuses or unique skills.
  • Hidden Bosses: Keep an eye out for rumors of other powerful, optional bosses lurking in the world, offering rare drops and ultimate challenges.

With these strategies and preparations, you are well-equipped to face the ultimate evil and restore peace to both the Dream and Real Worlds of Dragon Quest VI!
