Dragon Quest VII's class system is one of its most defining features. After reaching a certain point in the story (usually after restoring the Dharma Temple), you'll unlock the ability to change your characters' vocations. There are two main tiers of classes: Basic and Advanced. Mastering Basic classes (e.g., Warrior, Mage, Priest, Martial Artist, Thief, Dancer, Shepherd) unlocks access to Advanced classes (e.g., Gladiator, Paladin, Sage, Luminary, Pirate, Monster Masher). Further mastery of Advanced classes can even lead to special 'Hero' classes for the protagonist and unique monster classes. Each class grants specific stat bonuses, spells, and skills upon leveling up. Once a skill or spell is learned, it's permanently retained, even if you change classes. This allows for incredible customization and hybrid builds. Experimentation is key to finding the most effective combinations for your party. Don't be afraid to switch classes frequently to learn a wide array of abilities.
