Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past begins on the peaceful island of Estard, the only landmass known to exist in the entire world. Our hero, a young fisherman's son, lives a quiet life in Fishbel with his childhood friends, Prince Kiefer of Estard Castle and Maribel, the mayor's daughter. However, Kiefer's insatiable curiosity about the world beyond their shores sets the stage for an extraordinary adventure.

The Discovery of the Ancient Ruins

Kiefer, convinced there's more to the world than Estard, enlists the Hero to explore the mysterious Ancient Ruins located just outside Fishbel. This initial foray serves as a tutorial for basic movement and interaction. Follow Kiefer's lead through the ruins, interacting with sparkling objects and examining ancient tablets. You'll eventually discover a hidden chamber containing peculiar pedestals and fragmented tablets.

Action: Follow Kiefer to the Ancient Ruins.

Item Location: You'll find a Medicinal Herb in a pot near the entrance of the ruins.

This leads to the activation of a magical pedestal, transporting them to a new, previously unknown land. Key Item: You'll likely need to find a specific item or person to progress the story in Rexwood. For instance, you might need to find the Colorstone in the Colorstone Mine to clear the fog.
Combat Strategy: This is your first real combat area. Ensure your party is equipped with basic gear purchased from Fishbel or found in chests. Focus on single-target attacks for weaker enemies and save MP for healing spells like Heal.
Boss Battle: Prepare for a boss encounter at the Eastern Tower, which typically involves a monster corrupted by the darkness. Ensure your HP is high and use any available buffs or debuffs.

The Expanding World and the Search for More Fragments

As you restore more islands, the world map around Estard will gradually expand. Each newly restored island offers new towns, dungeons, characters, and most importantly, more tablet fragments. These fragments are often hidden in plain sight, in chests, pots, barrels, or given as rewards for completing quests. The narrative unfolds as you uncover the history of these lost lands and the overarching mystery behind their disappearance.

Item Management: Keep your inventory organized. Sell unneeded equipment and stock up on essential healing items like Medicinal Herbs and Antidotal Herbs.
