Character Creation and Initial Choices

Upon launching Dragon Quest X for the first time, you'll be greeted by the character creation screen. This is where your adventure truly begins!

• Race Selection: You'll choose from five distinct races:
  • Ogre: Powerful warriors known for their strength.
  • Puklipo: Small, agile, and magically inclined.
  • Elves: Wise and graceful, excelling in magic and healing.
  • Weddie: Aquatic beings, often skilled in support and elemental magic.

  Your initial race choice determines your starting town and a small portion of your early storyline. Don't fret too much, as you'll eventually be able to transform into any race later in the game.

1. The Human Village: You'll begin as a human in a peaceful village. Follow the on-screen prompts and speak to the villagers. Pay attention to dialogue, as it often provides hints and lore.
2. First Combat Encounter: You'll soon face your first monster. The game will guide you through basic combat mechanics:
   • Attack: Select "Attack" from the command menu.
   • Skills/Spells: As you level up, you'll unlock more powerful abilities.
   • Items: Use items like Medicinal Herbs to restore HP.

   Don't be afraid to experiment with different commands. The early enemies are quite forgiving.

   • Inn (宿屋): Rest to restore HP/MP and save your game.
   • Item Shop (道具屋): Purchase essential items like Medicinal Herbs (やくそう) and Antidotal Herbs (どくけし草).
   • Weapon Shop (武器屋) & Armor Shop (防具屋): Upgrade your gear as soon as possible. Even basic upgrades can make a significant difference in early combat.
