Guilds and Communities
Dragon Quest X is a massively multiplayer online game, and as such, interaction with other players is a core part of the experience. While you can certainly enjoy much of the game solo, joining a guild (known as a "Team" in DQX) or actively participating in the broader community offers numerous benefits, from tackling challenging content to simply finding like-minded adventurers for casual play.
Joining a Team (Guild)
Teams are the primary form of organized player groups in Dragon Quest X. They provide a hub for communication, shared resources, and cooperative gameplay. Joining a Team is highly recommended for all players, regardless of experience level.
Finding a Team
There are several ways to find a Team that suits your playstyle:
- Team Recruit Board: Visit the Team Recruit Board located in major cities like Astoltia Capital. This board allows Team leaders to post recruitment messages detailing their Team's focus (e.g., end-game content, crafting, casual play), preferred time zones, and any specific requirements. You can browse these listings and apply directly.
- Shout Chat: Use the "Shout" chat channel in busy areas such as Server 1 of Astoltia Capital or popular quest hubs. Many Team leaders or members will advertise their Teams here. Be polite and ask about their Team's activities and goals.
- Friend Referrals: If you've made friends with other players, ask if their Team is recruiting. This is often the most reliable way to find a good fit, as you already have a connection within the group.
- Official Forums/Community Sites: Check official Dragon Quest X forums or fan-run community websites. Many Teams maintain recruitment threads on these platforms.
Benefits of Team Membership
Being part of a Team offers a wealth of advantages:
- Team Quests: Teams can undertake special Team Quests that reward Team Points and valuable items. These quests often involve defeating specific monsters, gathering materials, or completing dungeons together.
- Team Level: As your Team completes quests and activities, it gains Team Experience and levels up. Higher Team Levels unlock various perks, including increased storage capacity in the Team Storage and access to unique Team Buffs.
- Team Storage: A shared inventory accessible to all Team members. This is invaluable for exchanging crafting materials, spare equipment, or quest items.
- Team Chat: A dedicated chat channel for your Team, making communication and coordination much easier than public channels.
- Mentorship and Assistance: Experienced Team members can offer advice, help with challenging content, or even craft gear for you.
- Social Interaction: The most significant benefit for many players is the social aspect. Teams provide a sense of belonging and a group of friends to share your adventures with.
Creating Your Own Team
If you prefer to lead your own group, you can create a Team. This requires a small gold fee and a visit to the Team Master NPC in any major city. Be prepared to actively recruit members and manage your Team's activities.
Community Interaction Beyond Teams
Even if you're not in a Team, or if you want to broaden your social circle, Dragon Quest X offers many ways to interact with the wider community.
Friend System
The Friend System allows you to add other players to your friend list. This enables private messaging, easy party invites, and the ability to see when your friends are online. To add a friend:
- Target You you wish to add.
- Open the Player Menu (usually by pressing a designated button or selecting them).
- Choose the "Add Friend" option.
- The other player must accept your request.
Party Finder
For specific content like dungeons, boss fights, or questing, the Party Finder is an essential tool. Access it through your main menu. You can:
- Create a Recruitment Post: Specify the content you want to do, the roles you need (e.g., Healer, Tank, DPS), and any level or gear requirements.
- Browse Existing Posts: Join parties that are already looking for members. This is a quick way to get into content without the commitment of a full Team.
Player Shops and Bazaar
The Bazaar in major cities is where You can set up their own shops to sell items. This is a vital part of the game's economy and a great way to acquire rare materials or equipment from other players. Take the time to browse and compare prices.
Seasonal Events and Festivals
Dragon Quest X regularly hosts Seasonal Events and Festivals. These events often involve unique quests, mini-games, and opportunities to interact with a large number of players in a festive atmosphere. Participating in these is a fantastic way to meet new people and earn exclusive rewards.
Emotes and Communication
Don't underestimate the power of simple communication! Use emotes to express yourself, wave to other players, or offer a quick "hello" in local chat. A friendly demeanor goes a long way in building connections within the game world.
While Dragon Quest IV utilized a fixed party of AI-controlled companions, Dragon Quest X encourages players to form Teams to tackle high-level boss encounters and community challenges together.
While Dragon Quest X fosters social cooperation through its Team system, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince focuses on individual mastery through its complex monster synthesis mechanics.
