Dragon Quest XI S introduces a unique mechanic that allows certain party members to ride specific monsters, granting them access to new areas and abilities. This feature, often tied to specific dungeons or regions, adds a strategic layer to exploration and combat.

The ability to ride enemies is typically unlocked after defeating a specific 'shiny' or golden variant of a monster. Upon defeating such a monster, you may gain the ability to mount it. These rideable monsters often possess unique traversal skills, such as the ability to jump to higher ledges, break through obstacles, or reach otherwise inaccessible platforms.

One notable instance of enemy riding occurs in the Kingsbarrow. After defeating a shiny Eggoskeleton, you can ride it to reach a treasure chest containing the RT button prompt. This sifies the initial introduction to this mechanic. The game encourages you to ride at least six different enemies to unlock a related achievement or trophy.

Each rideable enemy has its own set of capabilities. For example, some might be able to fly short distances, while others can smash through barriers. Understanding which monster to use for which situation is key to efficient exploration and puzzle-solving. The game often provides visual cues or environmental hints to suggest which monster is needed for a particular obstacle.

The enemy riding mechanic is not just for traversal; some rideable monsters might also have unique combat abilities that can be utilized in specific encounters. Keep an eye out for golden or shimmering monsters, as these are often the key to unlocking this exciting feature and progressing through challenging environments.
