The world of Dragon Quest XI S is populated by a vast array of creatures, from common slimes to fearsome dragons. Understanding the bestiary is key to preparing for battles, identifying weaknesses, and gathering valuable resources.
The Bestiary's Purpose
The Bestiary, accessible through your menu, records every monster you encounter. For each monster, it provides crucial information such as their HP, MP, Attack, Defense, Agility, resistances, weaknesses, and the items they are likely to drop.
Utilizing Monster Information
- Weaknesses: Identifying a monster's elemental or weapon weaknesses can significantly shorten battles. For example, some monsters are vulnerable to fire or ice spells, while others might be susceptible to specific weapon types.
- Resistances: Conversely, some monsters are resistant to certain types of damage or status effects. Knowing these resistances helps you avoid wasting MP or turns on ineffective attacks.
- Drop Items: Monsters drop various materials used for crafting, as well as other useful items. Knowing which monsters drop specific items is essential for crafting powerful gear or completing quests.
- Abilities: Understanding a monster's special attacks or abilities allows you to prepare accordingly, perhaps by using defensive buffs or status ailment cures.
Encountering New Monsters
When you encounter a new monster for the first time, its basic stats will be revealed. As you defeat more of that particular monster, more detailed information will be added to its Bestiary entry. Pay attention to the 'shiny' variants of monsters, as they often have improved stats and drop better items.
Consulting the Bestiary before engaging in difficult fights or when seeking specific crafting materials will greatly improve your efficiency and success rate.
