Mastering character mechanics and optimizing builds is crucial for success in Dragon Quest XI S. This section provides general tips for managing your party, leveling efficiently, and acquiring valuable items. Understanding how to control your characters and where to find resources will significantly ease your journey through Erdrea.

  • Once you receive a character, go to the Tactics menu (either through the miscellaneous menu or during battle before selecting fight) and choose how you would like your character to behave. You can select Follow Orders so that you have full control of the characters.
  • Once you get more than 4 characters, you can press the Triangle button during a battle and switch out characters as you please.
  • Before selling any items, check the "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" trophy guide to ensure you don't need the item for crafting.
  • The recommended levels for the end of each act are:
    • Act 1 - 30
    • Act 2 - 60
    • Act 3 - 99
    It is possible to finish the acts at a lower level, but these levels make it easier. For leveling tips, see "Next-Level Luminary."
  • When you reach a new area, explore it thoroughly for breakable pots/barrels, chests, wardrobes, and bookshelves with a red book. These can provide useful items.
  • To farm money, wait until Act 3. Go to The First Forest - Whale Way Station and look for Hooper Duper enemies. Three always appear in the main area. Steal the Devilry Drinker shield from them; these are common items. Each Devilry Drinker is worth 30,000G.
