The Skill Panel system in Dragon Quest XI S is your primary method for developing your characters' abilities and customizing their combat roles. Each character has a unique Skill Panel, divided into sections that unlock new skills and passive bonuses.
Understanding the Skill Panel
Each character possesses a personal Skill Panel, represented as a grid. By spending Skill Points earned through leveling up, you can unlock nodes on this grid. These nodes grant new active skills (abilities used in combat) or passive bonuses (stat increases, resistances, etc.).
Unlocking New Sections
Initially, only a portion of a character's Skill Panel is accessible. As you progress through the story and meet certain conditions (like reaching specific levels or completing character-specific quests), new sections of their Skill Panel will unlock, offering more advanced and powerful abilities.
Strategic Skill Point Allocation
- Weapon Proficiencies: Most characters have sections dedicated to specific weapon types (e.g., Swords, Greatswords, Whips). Investing here unlocks weapon-specific attacks and passive bonuses that enhance their effectiveness with that weapon.
- Character-Specific Skills: Some sections are unique to a character, offering abilities that define their role in the party (e.g., healing, debuffing, crowd control).
- General Bonuses: Other nodes provide general stat boosts like increased HP, MP, or defense, which are beneficial for any character.
Recommended Builds
While flexibility is key, consider focusing on a primary role for each character. For example, the Hero might benefit from a mix of Sword and Courage skills for balanced offense and support. Erik could excel with Knives for critical hits and debuffs. Experiment with different combinations to find the builds that best suit your playstyle.
