Snuggledell

Snuggledell is an early-game level that serves as an excellent introduction to managing multiple fronts and utilizing traps effectively. Your primary objective is to eliminate the hero Lord Snuggledell and his allies. This level features a good balance of gold, gems, and neutral creatures to recruit, but also presents a persistent hero threat.

Initial Setup & Expansion

Upon starting, immediately claim your Dungeon Heart and begin digging towards the nearest gold veins. You'll find a significant gold seam directly to the north-east of your Dungeon Heart, and another smaller one to the south-west. Prioritize establishing a:

  • Lair: A 3x3 Lair is sufficient initially.
  • Hatchery: Place this near your Lair to keep your creatures fed.
  • Treasury: Build a 5x5 Treasury to store your initial gold.
  • Training Room: A 5x5 Training Room is ideal to start leveling up your Imps and early recruits.

As you expand, you'll encounter a few neutral creatures. To the north-west, you'll find a group of Bile Demons. These creatures are excellent tanks and can be very useful in the upcoming battles. To the south-east, there's a small cluster of Trolls. While not as powerful as Bile Demons, they are cheap to maintain and can be useful for constructing rooms and reinforcing your defenses.

Dealing with Early Hero Incursions

Snuggledell's forces are quite aggressive and will begin probing your dungeon relatively early. Expect attacks from the north and east. Your initial defense should focus on:

  • Guard Posts: Place 2-3 Guard Posts at key choke points leading into your dungeon.
  • Basic Traps: Lay down some Boulder Traps and Spike Traps in corridors where heroes are likely to pass. Boulder Traps are particularly effective against groups.
  • Imp Patrols: Assign a few Imps to patrol these areas to repair traps and claim any unclaimed land the heroes might expose.

The first significant hero wave will likely consist of a few Monks and Fairies. Your Bile Demons, once trained, will make short work of them. Use the Call to Arms spell to quickly rally your creatures to the threatened area.

Mid-Game Strategy: Securing Resources & Advanced Defenses

Once your initial defenses are stable, focus on expanding and securing more resources. There's a large Gem Vein located directly north of your starting position, past the initial gold seams. This will be crucial for sustained income.

As you delve deeper, you'll uncover a few more neutral creatures:

  • Horned Reapers: To the far north-east, you'll find a dormant Horned Reaper. This powerful creature is a game-changer, but requires a significant amount of gold to maintain. Ensure your Treasury is robust before recruiting it.
  • Warlocks: In the central-eastern section, you might find a few Warlocks. Their ranged attacks and ability to research spells will be invaluable.

Upgrade your rooms as resources allow:

  • Larger Training Room: Expand your Training Room to at least 7x7 to accommodate more creatures and speed up training.
  • Library: A Library is essential for Warlocks to research new spells. Prioritize researching Lightning and Heal.

Consider building more advanced traps:

  • Poison Gas Traps: Excellent for weakening heroes before they reach your main forces.
  • Lava Traps: If you have access to lava, these are devastating, but require careful placement to avoid harming your own creatures.

Confronting Lord Snuggledell

Lord Snuggledell himself is a formidable opponent, often accompanied by several high-level Knights and Archers. He typically resides in a heavily fortified stronghold in the far north-eastern corner of the map.

Here's a step-by-step approach to taking him down:

  1. Scout Ahead: Use a few Imps or a low-level creature to scout the approaches to Snuggledell's stronghold. Identify choke points and hero patrol routes.
  2. Establish a Forward Operating Base (Optional but Recommended): If possible, claim a small area near the stronghold and build a temporary Guard Post and a few traps. This provides a rally point and an initial defensive line.
  3. Trap the Approaches: Lay a dense network of Boulder Traps, Spike Traps, and Poison Gas Traps in the corridors leading to Snuggledell's main chamber. The goal is to soften up his escort before your creatures engage.
  4. Assemble Your Strike Force: Your ideal strike force should include:
    • Tanks: At least 2-3 high-level Bile Demons or a Horned Reaper.
    • Damage Dealers: Several high-level Imps (surprisingly effective with their speed and numbers), Warlocks for ranged attacks, and any other combat-oriented creatures you've recruited.
  5. Initiate the Attack: Cast Call to Arms on your strike force and direct them towards Snuggledell's position.
  6. Support with Spells: Actively use your spells during the engagement:
    • Lightning: Target high-threat heroes like Snuggledell or his Knights.
    • Heal: Keep your tanks alive, especially the Horned Reaper.
    • Possess: Consider possessing a powerful creature like a Horned Reaper to directly control its attacks and abilities, focusing fire on Snuggledell.
  7. Reinforce: Be prepared to drop in additional creatures from your Dungeon Heart if your initial assault falters.

Once Lord Snuggledell falls, his remaining forces will often rout, and the level will be yours. Remember to keep an eye on your creatures' happiness and training throughout the mission to ensure they are always ready for battle!
