Woodly Rhyme
Woodly Rhyme is a deceptively simple level that can quickly turn into a nightmare if not handled correctly. Your primary objective is to eliminate the Lord of the Land, but a persistent hero presence and limited resources will test your early-game management skills.
Initial Setup & Expansion
Upon starting, immediately begin digging. Your goal is to secure a viable dungeon heart and expand your territory efficiently.
- Dungeon Heart Placement: The initial area is quite cramped. Dig a 3x3 area around your Dungeon Heart to provide immediate space for creatures and basic rooms.
- Gold Veins: There are two small gold veins directly accessible from your starting position. Prioritize digging to these immediately to fund your early expansion.
- Initial Rooms:
- Lair (5x5): Essential for attracting creatures. Place it near your Dungeon Heart for quick access.
- Hatchery (3x3): Crucial for feeding your creatures. Connect it directly to your Lair.
- Training Room (3x3): Start training your initial creatures as soon as possible. Even low-level creatures can be surprisingly effective against early heroes.
Early Hero Encounters & Defense
Heroes will begin to trickle in almost immediately. Your initial defense is key to survival.
- Hero Spawning Points: Heroes will primarily enter from the north-east and north-west corners of the map. Be prepared for a steady stream.
- First Wave: Expect a few Monks and Fairies. Your initial Imps and a couple of trained creatures (Bile Demons or Orcs are ideal if you can attract them) should be able to handle these.
- Defensive Line:
- Dig a narrow corridor leading to your Dungeon Heart. This forces heroes into a choke point.
- Place a few strategically positioned Boulder Traps (research these early!) in this corridor. They are excellent for softening up hero groups.
- Consider a small Guard Post (3x3) near the entrance to your main dungeon to station a few creatures.
- Reinforcements: Keep an eye on your creature count. If you're losing creatures, drop a few Imps into the Training Room or use the "Call to Arms" spell to rally your forces.
Mid-Game Expansion & Creature Recruitment
Once your initial defenses are stable, focus on expanding and attracting stronger creatures.
- Library (5x5): Essential for researching new spells and rooms. Place it as soon as you have the gold and space. Prioritize researching "Boulder Trap" and "Heal" first.
- Bridge to the East: There's a small island to the east with a significant gold vein. Dig a bridge to it and claim the gold. This will be your primary income source.
- Creature Attraction:
- Bile Demons: Attracted by a large Lair and Hatchery. Their high health and area-of-effect attack make them excellent frontline defenders.
- Orcs: Attracted by a Training Room. Good all-around fighters.
- Warlocks: Attracted by a Library. Their ranged attacks and ability to cast spells are invaluable.
- Prison (3x3): Capture heroes and convert them to your side. This is a great way to bolster your ranks without relying solely on portals.
Locating the Lord of the Land
The Lord of the Land is located in the heavily fortified area in the center of the map. He is protected by several high-level heroes and a strong Keep.
- Scouting: Use your Imps to scout the central area. Identify hero patrols and trap locations.
- Tunneling Strategy:
- Southern Approach: Dig a tunnel directly south from your main dungeon towards the Lord's stronghold. This path is often less heavily patrolled initially.
- Northern Flank: Alternatively, you can attempt to flank from the north-west, but this often involves more direct confrontation with hero patrols.
- Hero Composition: Expect to encounter Knights, Wizards, and Archers. Knights are particularly dangerous due to their high armor and damage.
Final Assault on the Lord of the Land
Prepare a strong assault force before engaging the Lord of the Land directly.
- Assault Team:
- Frontline: A contingent of high-level Bile Demons and Orcs to absorb damage.
- Support: Several Warlocks for ranged attacks and spellcasting (especially "Lightning" and "Heal").
- Backup: Keep a few extra creatures in your dungeon ready to be dropped in if needed.
- Spell Usage:
- Heal: Absolutely critical for keeping your frontline alive. Cast it frequently.
- Lightning: Excellent for taking down high-priority targets like Wizards or the Lord himself.
- Speed: Use on your melee creatures to increase their attack speed and mobility.
- The Lord's Keep: The Lord of the Land will be inside his Keep. Break through the outer defenses using your melee creatures, then focus fire on the Lord. He has high health and deals significant damage, so sustained attack and healing are essential.
- Victory: Once the Lord of the Land is defeated, the level concludes.
