Creature Spawning & Attraction

Attracting the right creatures to your dungeon is paramount for success. Each creature type has specific room requirements and preferences. Understanding these mechanics allows you to strategically build your army and counter hero threats effectively.

General Spawning Mechanics

Creatures will spontaneously appear at your Dungeon Heart, provided you have the necessary facilities built and enough gold in your coffers to pay their wages. The rate and type of creatures attracted are directly tied to the rooms you construct and the available space within them. Remember, a creature will only appear if there's an available tile in the appropriate room for it to occupy.

  • Dungeon Heart: All creatures initially spawn here before moving to their preferred rooms. Ensure it's accessible.
  • Gold: Creatures demand payment! Maintain a healthy gold supply in your Treasury to avoid creature discontent and desertion.
  • Room Space: A creature will not spawn if there isn't an empty tile in its required room. For instance, a Bile Demon won't appear if your Hatchery is full.

Attracting Specific Creatures

To attract particular creature types, you must construct and maintain specific rooms. The larger and more well-equipped these rooms are, the more likely you are to attract higher-level or more numerous creatures of that type.

Imps

Your loyal, if somewhat dim-witted, workforce. Imps are essential for digging, claiming land, and moving resources.

  • Required Room: None. Imps are your starting creatures and will spawn automatically as your dungeon expands and you claim more territory.
  • Strategy: Dig out more land to encourage more Imps to spawn. The more territory you own, the more Imps you can support.
Bile Demons

These corpulent, belching brutes are excellent tanks and can absorb a lot of punishment. They are also vital for producing food.

  • Required Room: Hatchery. This room must contain at least one chicken.
  • Attraction Strategy:
    1. Build a Hatchery (minimum 3x3 tiles).
    2. Ensure there are chickens present. Chickens will automatically appear in a Hatchery over time.
    3. Expand your Hatchery to attract more Bile Demons. A larger Hatchery with more chickens can support more of these creatures.
Goblins

Fast, cheap, and surprisingly effective in numbers, Goblins are your early-game melee units.

  • Required Room: Lair.
  • Attraction Strategy:
    1. Construct a Lair (minimum 3x3 tiles).
    2. Ensure your Lair has sufficient space for Goblins to rest.
    3. A larger Lair will attract more Goblins.
Warlocks

Powerful spellcasters, Warlocks are invaluable for ranged combat and research.

  • Required Room: Library.
  • Attraction Strategy:
    1. Build a Library (minimum 3x3 tiles).
    2. Place Bookshelves within the Library. Bookshelves are built by Imps once the room is claimed.
    3. The more Bookshelves and the larger the Library, the more Warlocks you can attract and the faster they will research spells.
Horned Reapers

The ultimate melee powerhouse, Horned Reapers are devastating in combat but demand constant attention and are prone to fits of rage.

  • Required Room: Temple.
  • Attraction Strategy:
    1. Construct a Temple (minimum 3x3 tiles).
    2. Sacrifice creatures in the Temple. The specific combination of creatures sacrificed can influence the chance of a Horned Reaper appearing. Experiment with different sacrifices!
    3. A larger Temple with more active sacrifice altars can increase your chances.
Trolls

Excellent builders and decent fighters, Trolls are crucial for constructing traps and doors.

  • Required Room: Workshop.
  • Attraction Strategy:
    1. Build a Workshop (minimum 3x3 tiles).
    2. Ensure there are empty tiles for Trolls to work on.
    3. A larger Workshop with more available work areas will attract more Trolls.

Managing Creature Populations

Once creatures are in your dungeon, you need to manage them effectively. Unhappy or overcrowded creatures can become rebellious or leave. Always ensure you have enough food, gold, and space for all your minions.

  • Food: Ensure your Hatchery is producing enough chickens to feed your entire dungeon. Starving creatures are unhappy creatures.
  • Gold: Keep your Treasury well-stocked. Creatures demand their wages regularly.
  • Space: Overcrowding in rooms can lead to fights and unhappiness. Expand your Lairs, Hatcheries, and other creature-specific rooms as your army grows.
  • Training: use the Training Room to level up your creatures, making them more effective in combat.
