New Game+
Welcome, veteran adventurer, to the ultimate challenge of Dungeonborne: New Game+! This mode isn't just a simple stat boost for enemies; it's a complete re-imagining of the campaign with new threats, unique rewards, and strategic considerations that will push even the most seasoned players to their limits. Prepare to delve deeper, strategize smarter, and conquer the true darkness lurking within Dungeonborne.
Upon completing the main campaign on any difficulty, New Game+ becomes available. Your character's level, skills, and inventory (excluding quest items) carry over. However, the world itself has fundamentally changed.
New Game+ Overview
- Increased Difficulty: All enemies gain significant stat boosts, new abilities, and often appear in larger groups. Bosses have entirely new attack patterns and phases.
- New Enemy Variants: Encounter "Elite" and "Corrupted" versions of existing enemies, identifiable by their glowing auras and unique prefixes. These variants drop superior loot.
- Relic System: A new progression system tied exclusively to New Game+. Collect powerful Relics that grant passive bonuses or active abilities.
- Legendary Crafting Recipes: Discover rare recipes for crafting powerful Legendary-tier equipment, only available in New Game+.
- Altered Dungeon Layouts: While the overall structure remains, many dungeon rooms have altered enemy placements, new traps, and hidden pathways.
- Exclusive Quests: A new series of side quests, often involving tracking down powerful "Ancients" or recovering lost artifacts, becomes available.
Early Game Strategy (Levels 1-10)
The initial hours of New Game+ are arguably the most challenging. Your existing gear, while strong, will quickly feel inadequate against the amplified threats. Prioritize survival and efficient resource management.
Starting Zone: Whispering Woods
Your first objective should be to secure better equipment. The Whispering Woods, while familiar, now harbors Elite Forest Golems and Corrupted Dire Wolves. These enemies have a chance to drop Uncommon or Rare quality gear with higher base stats than anything you possessed at the end of your first playthrough.
- Prioritize Defensive Stats: Focus on acquiring armor pieces with increased Armor Rating and Magic Resistance. The damage output of even basic enemies is significantly higher.
- Weapon Upgrades: Seek out weapons with higher Base Damage and beneficial affixes like Life Steal or Critical Hit Chance. The Whispering Woods often yields the "Thorned Blade" (1-handed sword) or "Gnarled Staff" (2-handed staff) from Elite Golems.
- Relic Hunt: Keep an eye out for glowing pedestals. The first Relic, the "Stone of Resilience" (+5% Max Health, +2% Damage Reduction), can often be found near the ancient oak in the northern part of the Whispering Woods.
- Resource Management: Healing potions and mana potions are more critical than ever. Consider investing skill points into abilities that reduce potion cooldowns or increase their effectiveness.
First Boss: The Rotting Abomination
Located in the Foul Mire, the Rotting Abomination is your first major hurdle. In New Game+, it gains a new ability: "Corrosive Burst", which deals area-of-effect poison damage and reduces your armor for a short duration. It also summons more Bloated Zombies more frequently.
- Strategy:
- Poison Resistance: Equip any gear that provides Poison Resistance. If none is available, consume a "Antidote Potion" before engaging.
- Mob Control: Focus on quickly eliminating the Bloated Zombies. Area-of-effect abilities are highly effective here.
- Dodge Corrosive Burst: The Abomination will telegraph this ability with a green glow. Dodge roll away from the boss as soon as you see the animation start.
- Sustain: Bring plenty of healing. If you have Life Steal on your weapon, utilize it to maintain your health during the fight.
- Reward: Defeating the Rotting Abomination in New Game+ guarantees a "Foul Mire Heart" (Legendary crafting component) and has a high chance to drop the "Abomination's Carapace" (Heavy Armor Chestpiece with high Armor Rating and Poison Resistance).
Mid Game Progression (Levels 11-25)
As you venture into the Sunken Catacombs and the Blasted Wastes, the challenges escalate. This phase focuses on optimizing your build, collecting more Relics, and beginning to craft Legendary items.
Sunken Catacombs
The Undead here are more numerous and aggressive. Watch out for Elite Skeletal Mages who now cast "Chilling Nova", freezing you in place, and Corrupted Ghasts whose attacks apply a stacking "Weakness" debuff.
- Relic Acquisition: The "Tome of Ancient Knowledge" (+10% Spell Damage, +5% Mana Regeneration) is often found in the hidden library section of the Sunken Catacombs, accessible by solving the "Rune Puzzle of Eldoria" (the solution is now randomized in NG+).
- Legendary Recipe: The recipe for "Soulforged Gauntlets" (Plate Gloves with high Armor and a chance to reflect incoming spell damage) can drop from Elite Crypt Lords.
- Strategy: Prioritize enemies that apply debuffs or crowd control. Interrupting spellcasters is crucial.
Blasted Wastes
The fiery landscape of the Blasted Wastes is even more perilous. Corrupted Fire Elementals now explode upon death, dealing significant fire damage, and Elite Lava Golems leave behind pools of burning magma.
- Fire Resistance: Essential for survival. Seek out gear with Fire Resistance or consume "Fire Ward Potions".
- Relic: The "Cinderheart Amulet" (+15% Fire Damage, +5% Fire Resistance) can be found in the volcanic caldera, often guarded by an Ancient Magma Wyrm (a new mini-boss).
- Crafting: Gather "Obsidian Shards" from Lava Golems. These are vital for crafting many Legendary fire-themed items.
Late Game & Endgame (Levels 26+)
The final zones, including the Shadowfell Citadel and the Abyssal Depths, are where your build will be truly tested. This phase focuses on completing your Legendary gear sets, acquiring the most powerful Relics, and confronting the ultimate challenges.
Shadowfell Citadel
The denizens of the Shadowfell Citadel are masters of dark magic and illusions. Elite Shadow Weavers can now summon multiple illusions of themselves, making them difficult to target, and Corrupted Void Knights have a powerful "Void Lash" attack that pulls you in and applies a "Silence" debuff.
- Relic: The "Eye of the Void" (+10% Critical Hit Chance, +5% Critical Hit Damage, chance to apply "Vulnerability" on crit) is hidden within the deepest chambers of the Citadel, often requiring you to defeat a new boss, the "Archon of Shadows".
- Legendary Recipe: The recipe for "Shadowsilk Robes" (Light Armor Chestpiece with high Magic Resistance and a chance to dodge incoming spell attacks) can be found in a hidden chest behind the throne of the Archon.
- Strategy: Bring abilities that can dispel illusions or deal area-of-effect damage to quickly clear them. Be prepared for silence and root effects.
Abyssal Depths
The final frontier. The creatures of the Abyssal Depths are monstrous and relentless. Elite Kraken Spawn now have a "Crushing Grip" ability that stuns and deals continuous damage, and Corrupted Deep Ones can summon powerful "Abyssal Tentacles" to aid them.
- Relic: The "Heart of the Abyss" (Grants a powerful active ability: "Abyssal Surge" - deals massive damage in an area and grants temporary invulnerability) is the ultimate Relic, found only after defeating the final boss of New Game+.
- Legendary Crafting: "Abyssal Scales" and "Void Essence" are rare drops from enemies in this zone, crucial for crafting the most powerful Legendary weapons and armor.
- Final Boss: The Dreadlord (New Game+ Version):
The Dreadlord in New Game+ is a completely different beast. It gains two new phases and several devastating abilities:
- Phase 1: Shadow Barrage & Void Portals: The Dreadlord frequently teleports and unleashes a barrage of shadow projectiles. It also opens "Void Portals" that summon endless waves of Corrupted Voidlings. Focus on closing the portals quickly.
- Phase 2: Abyssal Chains & Soul Siphon: At 50% health, the Dreadlord will bind you with "Abyssal Chains", restricting your movement, and begin "Soul Siphon", draining your health and healing itself. You must break the chains by dealing a certain amount of damage to them.
- Phase 3: Ultimate Despair: Below 25% health, the Dreadlord gains a permanent aura that reduces your damage output and increases incoming damage. It also unleashes its ultimate ability, "Cataclysmic Void", a room-wide attack that requires precise timing to dodge or mitigate.
- Dreadlord Strategy:
- High Burst Damage: You need to be able to deal significant damage quickly, especially in Phase 2 to break the chains and in Phase 3 to finish the fight before Cataclysmic Void overwhelms you.
- Movement & Dodging: Maximize your movement speed and dodge capabilities. Many of the Dreadlord's attacks are telegraphed but require quick reactions.
- Resistances: Focus on Shadow Resistance and Physical Resistance.
- Consumables: Bring your best healing potions, mana potions, and any elixirs that boost your damage or defenses.
- Relic Activation: If you have the "Heart of the Abyss", save its active ability for Phase 3 to burst down the Dreadlord or survive a critical Cataclysmic Void.
Conquering New Game+ in Dungeonborne is a testament to your skill and dedication. Good luck, adventurer, and may your blades be sharp and your spells potent!
