'Titans' (z-T) and some 'Forgotten Beasts' can also appear on the surface, often as part of a 'Siege' (z-S) or as a random event. These are typically larger and more dangerous than regular surface creatures. They share similar characteristics to cavern FBs but often have more direct paths to your fortress entrance.
Strategy:
- Outer Defenses: Rely on your 'Outer Defenses' (b-D) like 'Drawbridges' (b-g-d), 'Moats' (d-h), and 'Cage Traps' (b-T-c).
- Ballistae/Catapults: 'Siege Engines' (b-T-b) can be effective against large, slow targets.
- Marksdwarves: 'Marksdwarves' (m) positioned on 'Fortifications' (b-C-f) can whittle down their health from a safe distance.
- Lure and Trap: Attempt to lure them into a prepared 'Killbox' (d-d) filled with 'Spike Traps' (b-T-s) or 'Magma'.
- Retreat: If overwhelmed, pull your dwarves back and seal the entrance.
