Parkour Fundamentals — Dying Light: The Beast Guide

In the zombie-infested city of Harran, your legs are your greatest weapon. Mastering parkour is not just about speed; it's about agility, precision, and using the urban landscape to outmaneuver the infected and reach your objectives.

Dying Light's parkour system is a cornerstone of its gameplay, allowing for fluid and dynamic traversal across the city. At its core, parkour is about efficient movement. The primary actions include Jumping, typically mapped to a face button, which allows you to leap across gaps and over obstacles. Holding the jump button can sometimes result in a longer, more powerful jump. Vaulting is a context-sensitive action, triggered by approaching an obstacle like a low wall or a car while moving forward. Your character will automatically vault over it. Climbing is initiated by moving towards a climbable surface, such as ledges or fences, and often requires holding a button to ascend. The game will often prompt you with visual cues for climbable areas. Sliding, usually performed by pressing a crouch button while sprinting, is excellent for quickly ducking under obstacles, evading enemies, or gaining momentum. Mantle is similar to vaulting but allows you to pull yourself up onto higher ledges. The key to effective parkour is chaining these movements together seamlessly. Look for opportunities to transition from a sprint to a vault, then immediately into a climb, or use a slide to duck under a low barrier. Always be scanning your environment for potential routes. Rooftops offer a safer, albeit sometimes more challenging, path than the streets. Use cranes, scaffolding, and balconies to ascend. Pay attention to your stamina bar; prolonged sprinting and climbing will deplete it, leaving you vulnerable. Learn to manage your stamina by taking short breaks or finding stable ground. As you progress, you'll unlock more advanced parkour skills in the Agility skill tree, such as dropkicks from heights or the ability to grab ledges from further away. Practice is paramount. Spend time simply running and jumping around the environment to get a feel for the distances and timing. Mastering parkour will not only help you escape danger but also discover hidden areas and valuable loot.
