Elden Ring offers a rich multiplayer experience, allowing Tarnished to band together for cooperative adventures or engage in thrilling player-versus-player (PvP) combat. Understanding the mechanics of summoning and invading is key to navigating these interactions.

Cooperative Play (Co-op)

Co-op in Elden Ring allows you to summon other players into your world to help you overcome challenging areas or bosses. Conversely, you can be summoned into another player's world.

  • Furlcalling Finger Remedy: This consumable item is essential for seeing summon ss. Use it to reveal the gold summon ss left by other players.
  • Tarnished's Furled Finger: Use this item to create your own summon s, allowing other players to summon you into their world for co-op.
  • Co-op Area Limitations: You can generally only summon or be summoned within the same general area or region as You you are interacting with.
  • Boss Progression: When playing in co-op, the host player must defeat the area boss for all players to receive credit for that boss's defeat in their own world.
  • Spirit Ashes: Spirit Ashes cannot be used when other players are present in your world.

Player vs. Player (PvP)

PvP allows for duels and invasions, where you can test your combat skills against other Tarnished.

  • Bloody Finger: This item allows you to invade other players' worlds. You can also use it to place your own dueling s.
  • Duelist's Furled Finger: Use this to place a red summon s, inviting other players to duel you.
  • Invasions: When you invade another player's world, your goal is typically to defeat them. The invaded player can summon additional allies to defend themselves.
  • Covenants: While not as prominent as in previous FromSoftware titles, certain items and interactions can lead to covenant-like mechanics, influencing PvP encounters.
  • Password Matching: You can set a password in the Multiplayer menu to ensure you only connect with friends, making co-op and duels more predictable.

Multiplayer Etiquette and Tips

  • Respect Duels: In dedicated dueling areas or when using duel ss, it's generally considered good etiquette to fight one-on-one without using healing flasks unless both participants agree.
  • Boss Fights: When summoned for co-op, focus on helping the host defeat the boss. Avoid unnecessarily engaging with enemies outside the boss arena unless directed.
  • Invaders: Invaders are often seen as antagonists. While you can fight them, remember that the host is trying to progress.
  • Communication: While there's no in-game voice chat, gestures and emotes can sometimes convey intent.

Engaging in multiplayer can significantly alter your Elden Ring experience, offering both assistance and formidable challenges.
