Caelid
Welcome, Tarnished, to Caelid – a land scarred by the Scarlet Rot, where the very air is toxic and the creatures are twisted beyond recognition. This region is significantly more challenging than Limgrave or Liurnia, so come prepared with strong gear, plenty of Flasks of Crimson/Cerulean Tears, and a good understanding of Scarlet Rot's debilitating effects. We recommend being at least character level 60-80 before tackling the main challenges here.
Reaching Caelid
There are two primary ways to enter Caelid:
- Teleporter Trap (Early Access): In Limgrave, within the Dragon-Burnt Ruins, there's a chest that, when opened, teleports you directly into the Sellia Crystal Tunnel in Caelid. This is an extremely dangerous early-game option, but can be used to grab some early items if you're daring. Be prepared to immediately run for the exit and a Site of Grace.
- Through Limgrave (Standard Path): Head east from Limgrave, past the Mistwood, and cross the bridge leading into Caelid. The first Site of Grace you'll encounter is the Caelem Ruins.
Key Locations and Walkthrough
Southern Caelid: The Wastes
Your initial foray into Caelid will likely be through its southern, more open areas. Be wary of the giant Crows and Dogs, as they are far more aggressive and inflict Scarlet Rot.
- Caelem Ruins: Upon entering Caelid from Limgrave, activate this Site of Grace. Explore the ruins for basic crafting materials and potential Furlcalling Finger Remedies.
- Smoldering Church: Located north of Caelem Ruins. Here, you'll encounter an NPC invader, Anastasia, Tarnished-Eater. Defeat her for a Furlcalling Finger Remedy and a Sacred Tear.
- Gael Tunnel: East of the Smoldering Church. This dungeon contains the Moonveil Katana (a powerful Intelligence-scaling weapon) after defeating the Magma Wyrm boss. explore thoroughly for smithing stones.
- Fort Gael: Southeast of the Smoldering Church. This fort is guarded by numerous soldiers and a Lion Guardian. Inside, you can find the Starscourge Heirloom talisman, which boosts Strength.
- Caelid Waypoint Ruins: South of Fort Gael. Descend into the cellar here to find the Mad Pumpkin Head boss. Defeat him to access a chest containing the Nightrider Glaive.
- Cathedral of Dragon Communion: Located on a plateau in the far south of Caelid, accessible by following the path southeast from Fort Gael. Here, you can exchange Dragon Hearts for powerful Dragon Incantations after defeating specific Dragon bosses.
Central Caelid: The Swamp of Aeonia & Sellia
This central region is dominated by the treacherous Swamp of Aeonia, a vast area of Scarlet Rot. You'll need high immunity or plenty of Preserving Boluses to navigate it safely.
- Sellia, Town of Sorcery: A ghostly town to the east of the Swamp of Aeonia. The town's secrets are locked behind magical barriers. To dispel them, you must light three braziers located on towers throughout the town.
- One brazier is on a tower directly accessible from the main path.
- Another requires navigating rooftops and jumping puzzles.
- The third is on a tower in the northern part of town, often guarded by a Cleanrot Knight.
- Sellia Crystal Tunnel: As mentioned, this is where the Limgrave teleporter trap leads. It's a challenging dungeon filled with Crystallian enemies. The boss is a Crystallian Spear, and defeating it grants you the Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearing (1).
- Church of the Plague: Northeast of Sellia, accessible by a winding path up a cliff. This is a crucial location for Millicent's questline. You'll find Gowry nearby, an NPC who initiates the quest.
- War-Dead Catacombs: Located in the far east of Caelid, within the War-Dead Plains. This dungeon is filled with spectral soldiers and the boss is the Putrid Tree Spirit, which drops the Regalia of Eochaid.
Northern Caelid: Dragonbarrow
The northern reaches of Caelid, known as Dragonbarrow, are even more dangerous, featuring stronger enemies and more potent Scarlet Rot. This area is home to some of the game's toughest optional bosses.
- Fort Faroth: In the eastern part of Dragonbarrow. This fort houses the Radagon's Soreseal talisman, a powerful item that significantly boosts Vigor, Endurance, Strength, and Dexterity, but also increases damage taken. Be prepared for a challenging climb and a formidable bat enemy.
- Bestial Sanctum: In the far northeast of Dragonbarrow, accessible by a teleporter behind the Third Church of Marika in Limgrave. This is where you can offer Deathroot to Gurranq, Beast Clergyman, in exchange for powerful Beast Incantations and items. Be cautious of the Black Blade Kindred guarding the entrance.
- Lenne's Rise: A tower in the central-north of Dragonbarrow. Solve the puzzle of the three wise beasts to gain access to the Cerulean Amber Medallion +1.
- Minor Erdtree (Dragonbarrow): Located in the center of Dragonbarrow. Defeat the Putrid Avatar here to receive the Opaline Bubbletear and Stonebarb Cracked Tear for your Flask of Wondrous Physick.
