Mohgwyn Palace
Mohgwyn Palace is a late-game optional area renowned for its high Rune farming potential and its challenging boss, Mohg, Lord of Blood. Accessing this area can be done in two primary ways, each with its own advantages.
Accessing Mohgwyn Palace
There are two main methods to reach Mohgwyn Palace:
-
Varre's Questline:
- After defeating Godrick the Grafted, speak with White-Mask Varre at the First Step Site of Grace.
- Progress through his questline by defeating Godrick, then speaking to him again.
- Head to the Rose Church in Liurnia of the Lakes and speak with Varre again. He will give you the Festering Bloody Finger.
- Invade other players' worlds three times using the Festering Bloody Finger. You do not need to win these invasions.
- Return to Varre at the Rose Church. He will then present you with the choice to become a "full-fledged member" of Mohg's dynasty. Accept his offer.
- Varre will then give you the Lord of Blood's Favor, which you must soak in the blood of a Maiden. The easiest Maiden to find is at the Church of Inhibition in Liurnia, near the Frenzied Flame Village.
- Return to Varre once more at the Rose Church. He will then grant you the Pureblood Knight's Medallion, which teleports you directly to Mohgwyn Palace. This is generally the earliest way to access the area.
-
Consecrated Snowfield Teleporter:
- This method requires you to have reached the Consecrated Snowfield, an endgame area accessed via the Grand Lift of Rold using the two halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion.
- Once in the Consecrated Snowfield, travel to the western edge of the map.
- Look for a teleporter portal (marked by a small stone structure with a swirling vortex) near the blood-red lake. This teleporter will take you directly to Mohgwyn Palace.
Navigating Mohgwyn Palace
Upon arrival, you'll find yourself in a desolate, blood-soaked landscape teeming with dangerous enemies. The area is notorious for its high Rune yield, making it a prime location for farming.
First Area: Blood Lake and Albinaurics
- Initial Site of Grace: Regardless of your entry method, you'll likely start near the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace. This is an excellent farming spot.
- Rune Farming Strategy: From the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace, head east along the cliff edge. You'll encounter numerous sleeping (and some awake) Albinaurics. These enemies are relatively easy to defeat and drop a significant amount of Runes. Using an area-of-effect (AoE) attack or a weapon with good cleave can quickly clear groups. Be wary of the larger, red Albinaurics, as they are more aggressive and deal more damage.
-
Items of Interest:
- Along the cliff path, you can find Golden Rune [11] and Lord's Rune scattered among the Albinaurics.
- Near the large tree root extending into the blood lake, you can pick up Somber Smithing Stone [7].
- Blood Lake Hazards: The blood lake itself is filled with Giant Crows and other hostile creatures. Traversing it on foot is slow and dangerous. It's generally safer to stick to the higher ground or use Torrent for faster movement.
The Mausoleum and Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint
- Path to the Mausoleum: From the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace, follow the main path through the Albinauric farming area. You'll eventually reach a cave entrance leading into the main mausoleum structure.
-
Inside the Mausoleum: This area introduces new enemies, including the formidable Sanguine Nobles and spectral Skeletons.
- Sanguine Nobles: These enemies are fast and can inflict blood loss. They often appear in groups or ambush you. Prioritize taking them out quickly.
- Skeletons: Standard skeleton enemies, but they can be revived by nearby Necromancers. Defeat the Necromancers first to prevent endless resurrections.
- Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint Site of Grace: This crucial Site of Grace is located within the mausoleum, providing a much-needed checkpoint before the final boss.
-
Items and Secrets:
- Explore the various alcoves and side paths within the mausoleum. You can find Ghost Glovewort [7] and Great Grave Glovewort for upgrading Spirit Ashes.
- A hidden path near the Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint Site of Grace leads to a chest containing the Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear, a powerful Great Spear.
Mohg, Lord of Blood (Boss Fight)
The final challenge of Mohgwyn Palace is the demigod boss, Mohg, Lord of Blood, located at the very end of the mausoleum complex.
-
Pre-Fight Preparations:
- Purifying Crystal Tear: This crucial Flask of Wondrous Physick component can be found by defeating the Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger invader at the Second Church of Marika in Altus Plateau. It negates the damage from Mohg's "Nihil" ability during his transition to Phase 2.
- Stamina Management: Mohg is a highly aggressive boss. Ensure you have good stamina regeneration or a large stamina pool.
- Blood Loss Resistance: Equip armor or talismans that boost Robustness to mitigate his frequent blood loss attacks. The Lord of Blood's Exultation talisman is also a good choice if you can proc blood loss on him.
- Spirit Ashes: Powerful Spirit Ashes like the Mimic Tear Ashes or Black Knife Tiche Ashes can significantly aid in this fight.
-
Phase 1 Strategy:
- Mohg primarily uses his trident for sweeping attacks and thrusts. Learn his attack patterns and dodge into his attacks to create openings.
- He will also cast bloodflame spells that leave lingering pools of fire. Be mindful of your positioning.
- Try to stay close to him to avoid some of his ranged bloodflame attacks.
-
Phase 2 Transition and "Nihil":
- When Mohg's health reaches around 50-60%, he will initiate his "Nihil" ability. He will chant "Nihil!" three times, dealing massive damage and inflicting blood loss with each chant.
- Crucial: Drink your Flask of Wondrous Physick with the Purifying Crystal Tear *before* he finishes his third "Nihil!" chant. This will completely negate the damage and blood loss from this attack, allowing you to transition into Phase 2 relatively unscathed.
- After "Nihil," Mohg gains wings and becomes more aggressive, often flying and diving. His bloodflame attacks also become more potent.
-
Phase 2 Strategy:
- Continue to dodge his trident attacks and watch for his aerial maneuvers.
- He will frequently use a wide-arc bloodflame spray. Roll through this attack.
- Look for openings after his longer combos or when he lands from an aerial attack.
- Persevere, and Mohg, Lord of Blood, will fall.
- Rewards: Defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood, grants you the Remembrance of the Lord of Blood and a significant amount of Runes. You can exchange the Remembrance at the Roundtable Hold for either the Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear or the Regal Omen Bairn.
