Mount Gelmir & Volcano Manor

Mount Gelmir is a treacherous, volcanic region in the Lands Between, offering a challenging ascent and leading to the infamous Volcano Manor. This area is rich with unique items, formidable enemies, and crucial lore for those brave enough to explore its fiery depths.

Reaching Mount Gelmir

There are several paths to Mount Gelmir, each with its own challenges:

  • Rold Lift (Late Game): The most straightforward route, though it requires progressing significantly through the main story to unlock the Grand Lift of Rold. This path bypasses much of the lower Gelmir region.
  • Ruin-Strewn Precipice (Altus Plateau): From the Altus Plateau, head north past the Erdtree-Gazing Hill Site of Grace. You'll encounter a series of cliffs and a winding path that eventually leads to the base of Mount Gelmir. Be prepared for falling rocks and aggressive Golems.
  • Abductor Virgins (Underground): A more unconventional method involves being captured by an Abductor Virgin in the Raya Lucarian Academy's basement. If you die to its grab attack, you'll be transported directly to the Inquisitor's Grand Chamber within Volcano Manor, effectively bypassing the entire mountain climb. This is a high-risk, high-reward strategy.

Exploring Mount Gelmir

Once you've arrived, navigating Mount Gelmir requires careful platforming and vigilance against its unique inhabitants.

Key Locations & Items:

  • First Mt. Gelmir Campsite Site of Grace: Often the first Site of Grace you'll encounter when approaching from the Altus Plateau. From here, you'll begin your ascent.
  • Bridge of Iniquity: A precarious bridge guarded by a Mad Pumpkin Head. Crossing it leads to a path upwards.
  • Road of Iniquity Side Path Site of Grace: Located after crossing the Bridge of Iniquity, providing a much-needed checkpoint.
  • Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast: A formidable optional boss found near the summit. Defeating it rewards you with the Fallingstar Beast Jaw colossal weapon and Somber Smithing Stone [5] x5.
  • Spiritspring Jumps: Utilize Torrent's double jump on these to quickly ascend cliffs and reach higher areas. Look for them strategically placed along the mountain paths.
  • Crafting Materials: Keep an eye out for Smoldering Butterflies, Volcanic Stones, and Glintstone Fireflies, crucial for fire-based crafting.

Navigating the Mountain Path:

  1. From the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite, follow the winding path upwards. You'll encounter numerous soldiers and fire-breathing enemies.
  2. Cross the Bridge of Iniquity, dealing with the Mad Pumpkin Head.
  3. Continue along the cliffside, using the various ladders and spiritspring jumps to ascend. Be wary of snipers and large Trolls.
  4. You'll eventually reach a plateau with the Ninth Mt. Gelmir Campsite Site of Grace. This is a crucial checkpoint before the final push to Volcano Manor.
  5. From the Ninth Campsite, look for a path leading directly to the manor's entrance.

Volcano Manor

Volcano Manor serves as both a hub for a unique questline and a challenging legacy dungeon. Its interior is a labyrinth of traps, powerful enemies, and hidden secrets.

Manor Entrance & Initial Exploration:

  • Upon entering, you'll find the Volcano Manor Site of Grace. Speak with Lady Tanith, the manor's proprietor, to begin the Volcano Manor Questline.
  • Tanith will offer you a place in the manor and provide the Drawing-Room Key. Use this key to access the drawing-room, where you'll meet other Tarnished.
  • In the drawing-room, pick up the Recusant Finger and the Letter from Volcano Manor, which initiates your first assassination target.

Volcano Manor Questline (Assassinations):

This questline involves invading other Tarnished and defeating them. Each successful assassination rewards you and progresses the manor's story:

  1. Old Knight Istvan: Found in Limgrave, near the Warmaster's Shack. Reward: Scaled Armor Set.
  2. Rileigh the Idle: Located in Altus Plateau, near the Bridge of Iniquity. Reward: Crepus's Vial talisman.
  3. Juno Hoslow, Knight of Blood: Found in the Mountaintops of the Giants. Reward: Hoslow's Armor Set and Hoslow's Petal Whip.

After completing these assassinations, Tanith will offer to transport you directly to the heart of the Volcano Manor dungeon, bypassing much of the initial exploration.

Volcano Manor Dungeon Exploration:

If you choose to explore the dungeon manually (or are transported there by an Abductor Virgin), be prepared for a gauntlet of challenges:

  • Prison Town Church Site of Grace: A key checkpoint within the dungeon.
  • Godskin Noble: A powerful boss encountered early in the dungeon. Defeating him grants the Godskin Stitcher and Godskin Swaddling Cloth talisman.
  • Iron Virgins: These terrifying enemies are prevalent throughout the dungeon. Their grab attacks are particularly dangerous.
  • Abductor Virgins: If you're caught by one and die to its grab, you'll be transported to the Inquisitor's Grand Chamber, a shortcut to the dungeon's end.
  • Magma Wyrm: An optional boss found in the lava-filled areas.
  • Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy: The final boss of Volcano Manor. This fight is a two-phase encounter, requiring the use of the Serpent-Hunter great spear found in the arena. Defeating Rykard yields the Remembrance of the Blasphemous and Rykard's Great Rune.

Notable Items & Secrets within the Dungeon:

  • Ash of War: Royal Knight's Resolve: Found in a hidden room accessible by jumping across rooftops.
  • Crimson Amber Medallion +1: Located behind an illusory wall near the Prison Town Church.
  • Taker's Cameo: A talisman rewarded by Tanith after defeating Rykard.
  • Blasphemous Blade: A powerful greatsword obtainable from Enia at the Roundtable Hold using Rykard's Remembrance.
