Crystal Tears are the magical components that allow you to customize the effects of the Flask of Wondrous Physick, Elden Ring's unique consumable that grants temporary buffs. By mixing two Crystal Tears at a Site of Grace, you can create a potent concoction tailored to your specific needs, whether it's for a challenging boss fight, a difficult traversal, or general combat enhancement.

The Flask of Wondrous Physick itself is obtained early in the game, usually after you've acquired both the Flask of Crimson Tears and the Flask of Cerulean Tears. The first Crystal Tear you'll likely find is the Crimson Crystal Tear, often located near a Minor Erdtree. Once you have the flask and at least one tear, you can experiment with the "Mix Wondrous Physick" option at any Site of Grace.

Crystal Tears offer a vast array of effects. Some boost your offensive capabilities, such as increasing your attack power, critical hit damage, or the potency of your spells and incantations. Others focus on defense, enhancing your damage negation, poise, or providing a temporary shield against a single hit. There are also tears that aid in resource management, like those that restore HP or FP, or boost stamina recovery.

The locations of Crystal Tears are varied, but they are most commonly found near Minor Erdtree locations scattered throughout the Lands Between. Each Minor Erdtree typically yields one or two unique Crystal Tears. For example, the Minor Erdtree in the Weeping Peninsula offers the Crimson Crystal Tear and the Speckled Hardtear. The Minor Erdtree in Liurnia of the Lakes provides the Cerulean Crystal Tear and the Opaline Hardtear.

Beyond the Minor Erdtree, some Crystal Tears are found in specific dungeons, optional areas, or guarded by unique enemies. The Lake of Rot, for instance, contains the Crimsonspill Crystal Tear. The Consecrated Snowfield, a late-game area, is home to the Opaline Bubbletear. Some of the most powerful tears are often found in more dangerous or hidden locations.

The strategic use of Crystal Tears is paramount. For a melee build facing a tough boss, combining a tear that boosts physical attack power with one that increases poise can allow for more aggressive offense. A spellcaster might opt for a tear that boosts their Intelligence or Faith alongside one that restores FP. Defensive builds could combine tears that increase all damage negation with one that grants a temporary shield.
