Bandit & Humanoid Combat
Bandits and other humanoid factions represent a common threat throughout Tamriel. While they may lack the supernatural powers of some foes, their numbers, varied equipment, and tactical approaches can still pose a sificant challenge.
Understanding Humanoid Foes:
- Varied Equipment: Bandits can range from poorly equipped thugs with rags and iron daggers to heavily armored warriors wielding steel or even enchanted gear. Expect a mix of melee fighters, archers, and mages within their ranks.
- Group Tactics: Humanoids often fight in groups, attempting to flank you, surround you, or focus fire with archers.
- Weaknesses: Generally, they do not possess inherent resistances to elements or magic like some monsters. Their weaknesses are often tied to their specific equipment or chosen combat style.
- Predictable Behavior: While they can be cunning, their AI is generally more predictable than that of magical creatures or beasts.
Effective Strategies:
- Prioritize Threats: Identify and eliminate the most dangerous enemies first. This often means taking out archers who can harass you from a distance, or mages who can cast debilitating spells.
- Crowd Control: When facing multiple melee opponents, use spells or abilities that can stagger, knock down, or create distance. Area-of-effect attacks can also be very effective against tightly packed groups.
- Exploit Armor Gaps: If facing heavily armored bandits, focus on spells that bypass armor (like shock damage) or target their weaker points. If you're a melee character, power attacks and shield bashes can help break through their defenses.
- Use the Environment: use cover to avoid ranged attacks. Lure enemies into traps or narrow passages where you can control the engagement.
- Disarm and Debuff: Certain spells or weapon enchantments can disarm opponents or apply debuffs like paralysis or slow, giving you a sificant advantage.
- Stealth and Ambush: For builds focused on stealth, ambushing bandit camps from the shadows can be incredibly effective, allowing you to thin their numbers before they even know you're there.
Gear and Potions:
- Elemental Damage: Weapons enchanted with fire, frost, or shock damage are always useful against several humanoid foes.
- Armor Penetration: If available, gear or perks that improve armor penetration can be beneficial against heavily armored bandits.
- Potions: Potions of Fortify [Your Primary Combat Skill], Fortify Health, and Stamina are always good choices. Potions of Invisibility can be useful for scouting or escaping.
