Ancient Dragon Priest
The Dragon Priests are ancient and powerful beings, remnants of a time when dragons ruled Tamriel. Facing an Ancient Dragon Priest, likely found in a forgotten Nordic ruin or atop a remote peak, will be a true test of your combat prowess and magical defenses.
The Arena: Expect a grand, ancient chamber, possibly adorned with dragon motifs and filled with lingering magical energies. The arena might have traps or environmental hazards that the Dragon Priest can exploit.
Abilities:
- Dragon Shouts: These priests wield potent shouts, often mirroring those of dragons themselves. Expect Fire Breath, Frost Breath, and potentially more devastating shouts like Storm Call.
- Master-Level Destruction Magic: They command powerful spells from all schools of magic, with a strong emphasis on Destruction. Expect spells like Incinerate, Icy Spear, and Lightning Storm.
- Conjuration: Some Dragon Priests can summon spectral dragons or powerful undead minions to fight alongside them.
- Ward Spells: They can cast powerful wards to deflect incoming spells, making direct magical assaults challenging.
- Soul Trap: Be wary of their ability to drain your soul, which can weaken you and empower them.
Strategy:
- Counter-Shouts and Wards: If you have learned any shouts that can interrupt or counter enemy shouts, such as Dragonrend (if applicable to this specific priest) or Elemental Fury, use them strategically. Similarly, if you have access to warding spells, they can be invaluable for mitigating their magical onslaught.
- Exploit Elemental Weaknesses: Dragon Priests often have specific elemental resistances or weaknesses. If you know their primary element (e.g., fire), focus on using opposing elements (e.g., frost) or physical damage.
- Prioritize Minions: If the Dragon Priest summons spectral dragons or other powerful minions, deal with them immediately. They can quickly overwhelm you and distract from the main threat.
- Break Their Wards: If the Dragon Priest is using wards, a sustained barrage of attacks, or a particularly powerful spell, might be needed to break them. Alternatively, some shouts can bypass wards.
- Melee vs. Magic: If you are a melee character, closing the distance quickly and using power attacks can be effective, but be prepared to dodge their powerful melee swings and shouts. If you are a mage, carefully time your spellcasting between their ward activations and incoming spells.
- Environmental Awareness: Pay attention to the arena. Are there pillars for cover? Are there traps you can lure the priest into?
Recommended Gear: Gear with high magic resistance and resistances to the Dragon Priest's primary element is crucial. Consider bringing Potions of Fortify Magicka and Potions of Resist Magic.
