Opening the Stockade
With the acquisition of Eleine's spirit, the path to the Stockade, a grim and challenging new area, finally opens before you. Her unique ability, Eleine's Grace, is crucial for progression. This power allows Lily to interact with specific magical seals and barriers that were previously impassable. Specifically, Eleine's Grace is used to activate glowing blue magical seals, often found on ancient mechanisms or doors, and to destroy cracked, ethereal blue barriers that block pathways. These barriers shimmer with a faint blue light and will shatter upon contact with Eleine's activated ability.
To reach the Stockade, you have two primary options:
- Return to the Base of the Twin Spires: If you've progressed significantly past the Twin Spires, the most straightforward route is to fast travel to the "Twin Spires - Base" Respite. From there, head west, and you will encounter the sealed entrance to the Stockade.
- Utilize Shortcuts: Depending on your exploration, you might have unlocked a shortcut leading back down from higher areas of the Twin Spires. Regardless of the path, your destination is the large, sealed door located at the westernmost point of the Twin Spires' lower levels.
Upon reaching the sealed entrance, activate Eleine's Grace (typically by holding the designated spirit ability button) while facing the magical seal. The seal will react, and the heavy gates to the Stockade will slowly creak open, revealing a dark and foreboding passage.
Navigating the Stockade: Initial Threats and Preparations
The Stockade is a former prison, now overrun by some of the most dangerous Blighted creatures in Land's End. Expect tight corridors, multi-layered arenas, and enemies designed to inflict debilitating status effects. Preparation is key to surviving your initial foray:
Recommended Preparations:
- Spirit Upgrades: Prioritize upgrading your primary attack spirits (e.g., Umbral Knight, Western Merchant) and defensive spirits (e.g., Guardian Siegrid, Dark Witch Eleine) at a Respite. Higher levels mean more damage and better survivability.
- Prayer Charges: Ensure you have a full stock of Prayer charges. The Stockade is relentless, and healing opportunities can be scarce. Consider equipping relics that increase Prayer potency or maximum charges.
- Status Effect Resistance: While direct resistance relics might not be available yet, be aware of enemies that inflict status effects. Equipping the Amulet of the Blighted (if found) can offer some general protection.
- Sub-Spirits for Utility: Consider equipping spirits like the Fungal Sorcerer for ranged attacks or the Headless Defender for a temporary shield, as these can be invaluable in crowded encounters.
Initial Enemy Encounters and Status Effects:
The Stockade introduces several new and challenging Blighted types. Be particularly wary of the following:
- Blighted Jailer: These hulking, armored enemies wield massive maces. Their attacks are slow but powerful, and they can inflict Stun, leaving Lily vulnerable to follow-up attacks. Dodge through their swings and counter-attack from behind.
- Corrupted Prisoner: Agile and aggressive, these former inmates often attack in groups. Some variants can spit a dark ichor that inflicts Poison, slowly draining Lily's health over time. Prioritize these enemies to prevent health attrition.
- Whispering Shade: Ethereal and often camouflaged in the dark corners, these spirits can inflict Curse, which temporarily reduces Lily's attack power. They are fragile but dangerous in numbers. Use wide-area attacks or quick dashes to eliminate them.
- Blighted Hound: Fast-moving and relentless, these canine-like creatures can inflict Bleed with their bites, causing continuous damage. Their speed makes them difficult to hit; time your dodges and counter-attacks carefully.
Strategy Tip: Many areas in the Stockade are designed for close-quarters combat. Utilize Lily's dodge efficiently to get behind enemies and exploit their recovery frames. Don't be afraid to use your sub-spirits to create distance or deal burst damage to groups.
The Stockade is a significant step up in difficulty, but with careful preparation and a keen understanding of your enemies, you will uncover its dark secrets and continue your journey through Land's End.
