Charcoal

Charcoal is a vital fuel source and crafting ingredient in Enshrouded, essential for powering various crafting stations and for creating gunpowder. Its efficient production is key to maintaining a steady supply of energy for your base and for crafting the ammunition needed for combat. Mastering its creation will significantly streamline your survival efforts.

Charcoal is produced by burning wood in a specialized crafting station called the Kiln. The Kiln is a mid-game crafting station that you will unlock as you progress through the game and gather the necessary resources to build it. To produce Charcoal, you will need to place wood logs into the Kiln, along with a fuel source if the Kiln itself doesn't automatically consume wood as fuel. The process takes time, so it's advisable to set up multiple Kilns if you require a large quantity of Charcoal.

Obtaining Wood:

  • Chop down trees with an axe.
  • Collect wood logs from the ground.

Once you have a sufficient amount of wood, you can begin the process of creating Charcoal. Place the wood logs into the Kiln's input slots. The Kiln will then slowly convert the wood into Charcoal. The efficiency of the Kiln can sometimes be improved with upgrades or by using higher-quality wood, though basic wood logs are sufficient to start.

Charcoal serves as a superior fuel source compared to raw wood for many crafting stations, burning longer and more efficiently. More importantly, it is a key ingredient in the creation of Gunpowder, which is then used to craft ammunition for firearms. Ensuring a constant supply of Charcoal through well-managed Kilns will keep your crafting stations running and your ammunition reserves full, empowering you to face the challenges of Enshrouded.
