Flax

Flax is a crucial mid-game resource in Enshrouded, primarily used for crafting linen, which is essential for producing advanced clothing, armor, and other vital crafting components. Its cultivation and processing represent a significant step in establishing a self-sufficient base and advancing your technological capabilities beyond basic survival.

Initially, Flax can be found growing wild in specific regions, often in more temperate or grassy biomes. However, relying solely on wild harvesting is inefficient for the quantities needed for advanced crafting. The true value of Flax is unlocked when players establish a farm and cultivate it themselves. This requires recruiting the Farmer NPC, who provides the knowledge and crafting stations necessary for processing Flax into Linen.

Finding and Cultivating Flax:

Wild Harvesting: Look for Flax plants in open fields and grassy areas, often outside of the immediate Shroud. They have a distinctive appearance with thin stalks and seed heads.
Farming: The most efficient method. After recruiting the Farmer, you can build a Farming Plot. You'll need to acquire Flax seeds, which can sometimes be found as loot or purchased from vendors. Plant the seeds in the Farming Plot, and with time and potentially water (depending on game updates), the Flax will grow.

Processing Flax:

Once you have harvested Flax (either wild or from your farm), it needs to be processed into Linen. This is done at the Farmer's crafting station, specifically the Linen Weaver.

Craft the Linen Weaver: This station is built by the Farmer and requires resources like wood and nails.
Process Flax: Place your harvested Flax into the Linen Weaver. It will slowly convert the Flax into Linen.

Uses of Linen:

Linen is a versatile crafting material with several key applications:

Clothing and Armor: Linen is a primary component in crafting higher-tier clothing and armor sets, offering better protection and stats than early-game gear.
Building Components: It can be used in certain advanced building materials or decorative items.
Crafting Recipes: Linen is a prerequisite for many other crafting recipes, acting as a gateway to more complex items and technologies.
Consumables: Some specialized consumables might require Linen as an ingredient.

The ability to reliably produce Linen is a significant milestone. It allows you to craft better armor for surviving the Shroud, create more comfortable and protective clothing for exploration, and generally improve your character's survivability and effectiveness in combat. Prioritizing the recruitment of the Farmer and the establishment of a Flax farm is highly recommended for players looking to progress beyond the initial stages of Enshrouded.
