Glitches & Exploits (Harmless)
In Enter the Gungeon, "harmless" exploits refer to unintended mechanical interactions that provide minor utility or visual flair without corrupting save data or breaking the core game balance. These quirks are often kept in the game by Dodge Roll as "emergent gameplay" or simply low-priority bugs that players have grown to love. Leveraging these can give you a slight edge in resource management or movement speed during your descent into the Breach. While early exploits regarding inventory overfilling were patched years ago, several useful interactions remain in the final "A Farewell to Arms" build.
- The Resourceful Rat Theft: By dropping an item in a room and quickly leaving/re-entering, you can occasionally manipulate the Resourceful Rat's stealing timer. More importantly, using items like the Box or Aged Bell allows you to steal from the Shopkeeper without increasing your Curse as much as traditional stealing would, provided you break line of sight perfectly.
- Liquid Cooling & Fireplaces: You can use any "liquid-based" weapon (like the Mega Douser) to put out the fireplace in the first chamber to access the Oubliette. A harmless exploit involves using "frozen" enemies or certain active items like the Ice Bomb to trigger the switch if you lack water weapons, bypasssing the need for a water barrel entirely if timed with specific knockback frames.
- Table Tech Sightlines: Flipping a table (especially with Table Tech Sight) provides a brief window of invulnerability frames that can be extended by chain-flipping tables in a specific rhythm, allowing you to "buffer" your safety in crowded rooms like those found in the Hollow.
- Speed Buff Stacking: If you possess multiple movement speed items (like Shotga Cola and Ballistic Boots) alongside a jetpack, toggling the jetpack on and off rapidly while moving diagonally can sometimes result in a "momentum carry" that lets you clear trap rooms faster than your base stat would normally allow.
Always remember that while these interactions are beneficial, the Gungeon is unpredictable. Using the Teleporter Prototype, for example, has a very rare "glitch" chance to send you to the Secret Room or even the Eye Room, which is an intended "glitch-themed" mechanic rather than a bug. Embrace these quirks to master the Gungeon's most obscure secrets!
