4.1. Inventory Basics and Organization
Effective inventory management is paramount to survival in Escape from Tarkov. Your stash space is limited, and knowing how to organize, store, and utilize your items efficiently can mean the difference between a successful raid and a frustrating loss.
Upon entering the game, you'll be presented with your Stash, a grid-based inventory system where you store all your acquired gear. Items are represented by icons, and their size varies, dictating how many grid slots they occupy. Understanding item dimensions is key. For example, a large weapon might take up 10-12 slots, while a small key might only take up 1 slot. This is where Tetris-like spatial reasoning comes into play.
Your Secure Container is a special inventory slot that remains with you even if you die in a raid. This makes it the most critical place to store high-value items, quest items, or essential survival gear like painkillers and splints. Items placed in your Secure Container are safe from being lost upon death. Common Secure Containers include the Alpha Container (1x2 slots), Beta Container (2x2 slots), Kappa Container (3x3 slots), and others obtained through quests or found in raid.
When looting, prioritize items that are valuable, quest-related, or can be used to upgrade your Hideout or gear. Learn to quickly assess the value-to-size ratio of items. For instance, a stack of high-tier ammunition might be more space-efficient than a bulky, low-value weapon. Utilize the "Sort" function in your inventory to automatically arrange items, but don't rely on it exclusively; manual organization is often more efficient.
