Weapon Augmentations
Weapon augmentations are powerful gems that can be socketed into your weapons to grant them special bonuses. Each weapon in Fable III has a set number of augmentation slots, typically one to three, which can be unlocked as you progress through the game and upgrade your weapon's legendary status. Choosing the right augmentations can significantly enhance your combat effectiveness and tailor your playstyle.
Understanding Augmentation Types
Augmentations come in several categories, each designed to boost different aspects of your combat prowess:
- Damage Augmentations: These directly increase the raw damage output of your weapon. Examples include the Striker Augmentation (increases melee damage) and the Piercing Augmentation (increases ranged damage).
- Elemental Augmentations: Infuse your weapon with elemental properties, dealing additional damage over time or against specific enemy types. Common types are Flame Augmentation (fire damage), Shock Augmentation (lightning damage), and Corrosion Augmentation (acid damage).
- Utility Augmentations: These provide various beneficial effects beyond raw damage, such as increased gold drops, experience gain, or health regeneration. The Gold Augmentation and Experience Augmentation are excellent for early game progression.
- Status Effect Augmentations: These augmentations have a chance to inflict negative status effects on enemies, such as slowing them or reducing their armor. The Slow Augmentation is particularly useful against fast-moving foes.
Acquiring Augmentations
Augmentations can be found through various means:
- Loot Drops: Enemies, especially tougher ones like Balverines or Hollow Men, have a chance to drop augmentations upon defeat. Keep an eye out for glowing items!
- Chests: Silver and Gold Chests scattered throughout Albion often contain valuable augmentations. Remember to check your map for chest locations.
- Vendors: General Goods merchants in towns like Brightwall Village, Bowerstone Market, and Aurora will occasionally stock a selection of augmentations. Their inventory refreshes over time, so check back frequently.
- Quests: Certain side quests may reward you with unique or powerful augmentations upon completion. For instance, completing the "Gnomes Are Evil!" questline might yield an augmentation with a bonus against gnomes.
Socketing and Removing Augmentations
To manage your augmentations:
- Open the Sanctuary: Access your weapons by interacting with the weapon display in the Sanctuary.
- Select a Weapon: Choose the weapon you wish to augment.
- View Augmentation Slots: The weapon's details will show its available augmentation slots. Unlocked slots will appear as empty circles.
- Socket an Augmentation: Select an empty slot and then choose an augmentation from your inventory. Confirm your choice to socket it.
- Removing Augmentations: To remove an augmentation, select the filled slot. You'll be given the option to remove it. Be aware that removed augmentations are destroyed, so choose wisely!
Pro Tip: Consider the type of enemies you'll be facing. If you're heading into the Shifting Sands, a Corrosion Augmentation might be more effective against Sand Furies than a Flame Augmentation.
Recommended Augmentation Combinations
While personal preference plays a role, here are some effective combinations:
- Melee DPS Build: For a pure damage output, combine Striker Augmentations with an Elemental Augmentation (e.g., 2x Striker, 1x Flame). This maximizes your raw damage and adds a burning effect.
- Ranged Crowd Control: For ranged weapons, consider a mix of damage and utility. Try Piercing Augmentation, Slow Augmentation, and Shock Augmentation. This allows you to deal damage, slow enemies, and potentially stun them.
- Gold Farming: When you're looking to earn some extra coin, equip weapons with multiple Gold Augmentations. This is especially effective when clearing out areas with many weaker enemies.
- Experience Grinding: Similar to gold farming, using Experience Augmentations on your weapons will significantly boost your experience gain, helping you unlock new abilities faster on the Road to Rule.
Experiment with different combinations to find what works best for your playstyle and the challenges ahead!
