Traits are special characteristics chosen at character creation that provide both a bonus and a penalty. You can select up to two traits. They offer unique ways to customize your character's strengths and weaknesses.

Recommended Traits for New Players:
- Gifted: +1 to all SPECIAL stats, but -5% to all skills. Generally considered one of the best traits due to the massive SPECIAL boost.
- Good Natured: +15% to Speech, Doctor, and First Aid, but -10% to all combat skills. Great for diplomatic or support characters.
- Fast Shot: All attacks cost 1 less AP, but you cannot aim for specific body parts. Excellent for high-Agility combat builds.
Perks are special abilities gained every three levels (or every four levels if your Intelligence is low). They provide powerful bonuses and can significantly enhance your character's capabilities. Plan your perk choices in advance to create a synergistic build.
Early Game Perks to Aim For:
- Bonus HtH Attacks: (Level 3) Grants an extra unarmed/melee attack per turn.
- Comprehension: (Level 3) Doubles the skill points gained from skill books.
- Action Boy/Girl: (Level 6) +1 Action Point. Can be taken twice for a total of +2 AP.
