Beyond standard gear, Fallout 4 features unique weapons and armor with fixed special effects, and legendary items that drop randomly from legendary enemies.
Unique Items
These are named items with specific locations or quest rewards. Examples include:
- Kellogg's Pistol: .44 Revolver with the 'Relentless' effect (refills AP on critical hit). Acquired from Kellogg during 'Reunions'.
- Overseer's Guardian: Combat Rifle with the 'Two Shot' effect (fires an additional projectile). Sold by Vendor Alexis Combes in Vault 81.
- Spray n' Pray: Submachine Gun with the 'Explosive' effect (bullets explode on impact). Sold by Cricket, a traveling merchant.
- Big Boy: Fat Man with the 'Two Shot' effect. Sold by Arturo Rodriguez in Diamond City.
Legendary Items
Legendary enemies (marked with a star next to their name) drop legendary items upon defeat. These items have a random legendary effect, such as:
- Explosive: Bullets explode on impact.
- Two Shot: Fires an additional projectile.
- Wounding: Targets bleed for additional damage.
- Instigating: Double damage if target is at full health.
- Sentinel's: Reduces damage by 15% while standing still.
- Cavalier's: Reduces damage by 15% while blocking or sprinting.
Farming legendary enemies in high-level areas is a common strategy for acquiring powerful gear.
