C.A.M.P. & Settlements: Building Your Home in the Wasteland
Your C.A.M.P. (Construction and Assembly Mobile Platform) is your personal sanctuary in the harsh world of Fallout 76. It's where you can craft gear, store items, cook food, and rest. Building a well-desed C.A.M.P. is not only about aesthetics but also about functionality, providing essential services and defenses to make your survival in Appalachia more manageable and enjoyable.
Placing Your C.A.M.P.
When you first start, you'll be given a C.A.M.P. module. You can place this module almost anywhere on the map, provided the terrain is relatively flat and not already occupied by another player's C.A.M.P. or a desated public area. The placement of your C.A.M.P. is crucial, as it determines your fast travel point and the resources you can access nearby.
- Resource Nodes: Look for locations near resource nodes like Iron, Lead, or Acid deposits, which can be claimed using Workshops.
- Strategic Locations: Consider areas with good defensive positions, access to vendors, or proximity to quest objectives.
- Flat Terrain: Essential for building structures without sificant clipping issues.
Building Components
Once your C.A.M.P. module is placed, you can start building using several components:
- Foundations: Provide a stable base for your structures.
- Walls and Roofs: Enclose your living space and protect you from the elements.
- Doors and Windows: Allow access and provide visibility.
- Stairs and Ladders: For multi-story constructions.
- Power Connectors and Conduits: Essential for powering your appliances and lights.
You can build using various material sets, such as Wood, Steel, Brick, and more, each with a different aesthetic. Many of these sets can be unlocked through quests, the Atomic Shop, or by scrapping specific junk items.
Essential C.A.M.P. Structures and Appliances
A functional C.A.M.P. requires several key structures:
- Crafting Stations: Armor Workbench, Weapon Workbench, Chemistry Workbench, Tinker's Workbench.
- Power Generator: To supply electricity to your C.A.M.P.
- Water Purifier: To produce clean, safe drinking water.
- Stove/Cooking Station: To cook food and gain buffs.
- Stash Box: For storing excess items.
- Bed: To gain the 'Well-Rested' bonus, which provides a temporary XP boost.
Defending Your C.A.M.P.
While not always necessary, your C.A.M.P. can sometimes be attacked by enemies. You can build defensive structures like Turrets to help protect your base. The effectiveness of your defenses depends on their placement and the types of enemies you expect to encounter.
Moving Your C.A.M.P.
If you wish to relocate your C.A.M.P., you can pack up your existing structures and move the C.A.M.P. module to a new location. Note that moving your C.A.M.P. will incur a Cap cost, which increases with the distance you move it. Some pre-built structures may be saved as 'Blueprints' for easier rebuilding.
Building a C.A.M.P. is a core part of the Fallout 76 experience. Take your time, experiment with dess, and create a space that reflects your personality and meets your survival needs in the Wasteland.
